Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I have a form set up that shows both parent and child records on a TAB.

    The "Child" TAB is only displaying the very last record for the children, But the browse shows all of them. How can I set up a button on my form to fetch between the other children?

    Also How do I show a text box that displays "1 of 3", "2 of 3", etc on the form?

    RE: Child Records

    Not sure I understand this but...You have a form with a tabbed subform. One tab is labeled Child. On the child tab you have some fields from the child table along with an embedded browse. If that's the case, whatever record has focus on the browse, that is the record you will see in the fields on the Child tab. A5 is working the way it's supposed to work.

    I don't understand what you mean by fetching between the other children. Simply giving focus to a different record on the browse will change the records in the fields on the Tab.

    If I'm not understanding what you are trying to do, oh well, I gave it a shot!

    TYVM :) kenn

    Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.

      RE: Child Records

      The 1st q. is easy:

      tbl = table.get("Child name here")

      The 2nd q. is a little tricky -

      1) You need to get the total number of child records:

      tbl = table.get("Child name here")
      i = tbl.index_primary_get()
      nrecs = i.records_get()

      RecNoText.text = ALLTRIM(STR(nrecs)) + " records displayed"

      ...assuming a text object called "RecNoText"

      The button can increment a value on each push, but that won't work if the user puts the cursor on an interim child record. In that case you will have to loop thru the child records to count the current position (by comparing the current record no to the fetched value). If you are not skilled w. xbasic it is a little tricky.

          RE: Child Records

          I might be misunderstanding your question. But I have built the same type of tabbed setup with several childs. In this case the child has several fields, but I only wanted the user to focus on one of the fields. I take care of the inputting the other fields for them via conditions. What I did was add a sub-form on the tabbed with the field, as well as Add New, Next, Previous, and Save buttons. Then because the user generally likes to see that they really have added something, I added a Browse, read-only section to the right of the sub-form object.

          Since I really don't want them changing the data, I'm probably going to remove the Next and Prvious buttons ... but we'll see.

            What I have is a form. On it is a tabbed subform.
            It does NOT have any browse on it. It just shows the parent record based on a "CFS" and then the child tab shows the child record also based on "CFS".
            the problem is it only shows the LAST child record. I want to be able to change to other child records for that "CFS". I just want to be able to press (2) buttons, NEXT and PREVIOUS to change the focus from say child record 3 to like 2 or 4 or any other one that is there. I do NOT want to put a browse on the form.
