Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Header vs. Footer

    I have an expression that is duplicated in the group header and group footer. it is as follows

    total(Basepay2001->Cppamount,GRP->Employees->Sin_Number)
    total(Basepay2001->Cppamount,GRP->Employees->Sin_Number)

    this is the exact line from header and foot respectivly

    the value in header is $42.08
    the value in Footer is $800.50

    I was uder the impression it didn't matter which location it was in, it should calc to the same value.r

    Never experienced this. Can you zip up a small sample of the table and it's support files for examination?
    There can be only one.

      Yes, please post it if you can. I happened to be working on a report with multiple groupings so I copied on of the calculated fields into various other headers and footers - it always gave me the same result.

      If you aren't comfortable posting it on this rather public board, consider contacting me directly.

        It is part of a set which does contain some very sensitive data.

        Can't figure this one. I can copy(ctrl-c) the the calc field same thing. I can drag it to the header from the footer it changes from the total to the single value.

        I have determined that the value it has reveted to in the header is the value from the last record of the group.

        I have added the set to a different database. I have created a new report and put the expression in everything is fine. When I run the report that can withthe set it does it again. I can get around it to get the report I want but I am very intrigued at this point.

          Bruce,

          How many group breaks did you define for your report?

          I ask because each group can have its own header and footer. I've occasionally lost my place, and thought I was working with the header for group1, when it was actually group2, for example.

            I just noticed a possible difference between what you are doing and what I did (see earlier post).

            Is BasePay2001 a child table? The calculated fields that I moved around were based on the parent table. Possibly this is causing the system to recalculate the value based on the child records that seem to be "visible" in the various headers/footers?

              RE: Header vs. Footer

              I have only one group break. Basepay2001 is the primary table. I have placed various other fields from the table next to each of the ones described before. They have summed correctly. I think it is a glitch.

              There are others in the program and I just learn to work around them. Such as, In the same database that has these tables(called Mega System) I cannot use the import operation. When I do it crashes the database. I have an import database which I use, when the operation is done I add the table to the existing Mega System database.

              I don't use the import often and will forget that I can't and trry it. As soon as it crashes I remember and go through the other way. Just a quirk with this one database. Not complaining, I am still better than going with Access.
