Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ZDnet comments

Has anyone checked out the user comments regarding Alpha 5 at ZDnet lately? I noticed the two most recent comments slam Alpha Software for spamming. Are they plants by the competition or what?

    RE: ZDnet comments

I checked it out. Although some of the opinions are names I recognize, ther are some names I have not seen on the board much or at tall. Obviously, the first two names are not legit. If they are, these guys certainly won't be able to use any other database with A5's flexibility and power; even ones with less. For them, no one's home and I doubt there's even a light on.

I don't know if they are real comments or not but that kind of slamming is just a waste of space. I couldn't leave those jerks as the lead for anyone looking at the product so I posted my comments.

Has anyone on the board received spam from Alpha? All I've ever gotten is an occasional postcard. If anyone was going to receive spam, you'd think it would be us. After all, Alpha has all our email addresses.

OTH, I'd be happy to receive spam from Selwyn or Richard that says V5 is ready?

          Hi Ohlen,

"OTH, I'd be happy to receive spam from Selwyn or Richard...."

So we really have a definitional question here. Anything we receive from these gentlemen can't be spam.

More seriously, the stupid comments at ZD remind me of the difference in level of decorum on this board compared to the rest of the universe. Not to be taken for granted.

            Richard:

Assuming those are real names, Alpha Software can probably process a slander lawsuit against the two who published those posts. Alpha Software need only prove that those of us who frequent this board and rated the product receive no royalties of any kind, and do not work for Alpha Software.

If the names are not legitamit, Alpha Software can have ZDNet remove the posts, or face the consequences.

Sadly, I believe the owners are too much the gentlemen to proceed. This leaves a pit in my stomach, as Alpha follows the highest code of business ethics I have ever seen in a software company.

            Sincerely,

            Craig

              Same here.
I received a few notifcation, but never spam.
I welcome any news from Alpha Five and the fine organization it is.
This software has made our company very efficient.
I too was hoping it would be news about version5, but I am not rushing because version 4.5 works excellent.

I will take this up with ZD Net.

In the meantime we certainly appreciate all of your comments on this board and Finian's recent
"counteracting" post and if any one else on this board chooses to do something similar that would be great.
