Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Disappearing Objects On Tabbed Form

    Using most recent a5 4.5.

I have a tabbed form with a field called Literature Given. It is set up to skip several logical fields on a form if no literature is given. When Literature given is equal to yes you then click on the logical field button obect to mark the different types of literature given. It works great when literature is given. When literature given is equal to "no" it will skip the logical field buttons, but if you click on them with the mouse they will disappear and not come back unless you close the software and restart the software. Any and all of the logical field button objects will disappear if clicked. Of course, I have instructed operators to avoid clicking on them, but what gives. Anybody know or have experienced this issue.

    Thanks for any input.

You write "It is set up to skip several logical fields on a form if no literature is given."

Exactly how have you managed this?

RE: Disappearing Objects On Tabbed Form

I have a skip expression in there field rules if Literature_Given="No"
then it skips the logical field that I would click to mark the different
types of literature. So if I am going through the form just hitting
enter after I put in "No" for Literature_Given it will skip over all of
the logical fields that follow. The problem is if one of my operators
choose to then for whatever reason click on one of the the literature
choices it will disappear on the screen. Never seen such a situation.
I hope that answers your question.

Your answer provokes me to ask a new question. Does the same behavior occur if you use the default form? If not, then try check boxes but not on a tabbed form. In other words try to isolate what is causing the behavior.

Perhaps instead of the skip rule, you could put an OnDepart action on the form which, if Lit Given=no (or .f.) activates the field that you want, but does not prevent the user from going back to the fields which you skipped in the field rules.

I bet that would resolve the problem.

You're on the right track, but it seems Patrick needs to DISABLE the check-box objects using the OnDepart action of Literature_given...

            if isblank("lit_given")
            end if

RE: Disappearing Objects On Tabbed Form

Too many fields for the issue to show on the default form. I did create a form with just those fields. It didn't cause a dissappearance of a checkbox until I came back to it. Then it caused the disappearance of a couple of the checkboxes. I guess the next step would be to get rid of skip expressions one by one and see if that helps??? Or do you have another suggestion?

              It is really weird.

I will attempt the other suggestions that others have given. Thanks for the input.
