Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Boy - have I made a mistake!

    Hey out there,
    You know when you go to Pack a table and you get a message saying that the records will be permanently deleted? Well, the anthesis of that is that there must be a way to undelete the records you just deleted. Anyone know how to do this? I deleted several records from the wrong table and MUST get them back! To thicken the plot, I must get them back before I shut down tonight, because the table will copy itself over yesterdays table, therefore probably permanently destroying the records I accidentally deleted today.

    Why not get the back up copy from IT? Because I've always wanted to know how to undelete records. PLUS, I suspect that would be a lot easier than trying to get the backup file before 5 p.m. this evening.

    I feel like I'm slowly drowning!
    Thanks!

    Do you have Peter Wayne's book on XBasic? He has a script to undelete deleted records. If not, search his web site (http://www.learn alpha.com/). If it's not there, let me know and I'll post it.

      RE: Boy - have I made a mistake!

      I copied one of Dr. Wayned scripts for you - you can trim it up a little bit if you want
      ' undelete and unmark records
      option strict
      dim tbl as p
      dim deletion_field as p
      dim fild as p
      dim nrecs as n
      dim i as n
      dim response as n
      dim tbl_name as c
      dim class as c
      dim field_val as c
      tbl_name=ui_get_text("Undelete records","of which table?")
      if tbl_name="" then
      end
      end if
      if right(tbl_name,4)=".dbf" .or. right(tbl_name,4)=".set" then
      tbl_name=left(tbl_name,len(tbl_name)-4)
      end if
      on error goto no_open
      tbl=table.open(tbl_name)
      on error goto 0
      deletion_field=tbl.field_get(0)
      fild=tbl.field_get(1)
      class=fild.type_get()
      nrecs=tbl.records_get() + tbl.records_deleted()
      for i=1 to nrecs
      :statusbar.percent(i,nrecs)
      tbl.fetch_goto(i)
      if deletion_field.value_get()="*" .or.
      deletion_field.value_get() = "-" then
      select
      case class="D"
      field_val=dtoc(fild.value_get())
      case class="N"
      field_val=alltrim(str(fild.value_get(),
      fild.width_get(),fild.dec_get()))
      case class="C"
      field_val=fild.value_get()
      case class="L"
      field_val=iif(fild.value_get()=.t.,"True","False")
      case else
      field_val="Can't display this field"
      end select
      response=ui_msg_box("Undelete this one", field_val,
      UI_QUESTION_SYMBOL + UI_YES_NO_CANCEL)
      select
      case response=UI_YES_SELECTED
      'undelete
      tbl.change_begin()
      deletion_field.blank_put()
      tbl.change_end(.t.)
      case response=UI_CANCEL_SELECTED
      exit for
      case else
      ' do nothing
      end select
      end if
      next i
      tbl.close()
      ui_msg_box("Finished undeleting",tbl_name)
      end
      no_open:
      ui_msg_box("Unable to open",tbl_name)

        Hey, thanks to both of you! I don't know Xbasic, but will write this script and execute it and see what happens. I'll let you know!
        Thanks,

            Wanda,

            Next time you are archival-challenged, you can try my undelete record function (or use the other variants provided previously here in this section of the board-search for Undelete) in the archive section at
