Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Deleting (Erasing) a Database

I am using A5 Home Edition, and want to get rid of a database. Is there a way to do it simply, or must I delete each table, etc., and then go thru Windows Explorer to find and manually delete those 5 database file (*.ALB, ALX, MUF, ALM & ADB)?

It seems that there should be a simple way to delete/erase a database from within A5, that would delete/erase all assoicated files with that database. (Hint: If there's not such a way now, then I suggest A5 include one in their next update! :-)

    Thanks much in advance!

    RE: Deleting (Erasing) a Database

    Hi Bruce,

First things first, all files for any given DB should be kept in the same folder. When you want to delete a DB (not a table), go into windows explorer and delete the associated folder.

I agree with Ed, but if tables are not in the same folder right click and delete in the control panel removes all the files from the system automatically in full version without the need to go through Windows explorer. If home version does not this must be one of the diferences.

        RE: Deleting (Erasing) a Database

When you say 'control panel', I assume you are talking about the control panel in A5. And yes, it is easy to delete each table individually either by right-clicking on it and selecting delete, or by clicking on it and then on the delete button.

But, this only works for one table/set/etc. at a time, and does not remove the database itself. And it is not possible (with Home Edition anyway) to delete the database from the opening 'recent databases' window.

Am I missing something? From what I've heard so far, there is no way to delete a DATABASE from within A5 - one must go through Windows Explorer or similar?

"one must go through Windows Explorer or similar" - correct

to delete the database from the opening 'recent databases' - unnecessary, once removed as noted above, close Alpha, reopen, and it will not be in the list
          There can be only one.

No little blue square and pen symbol at the very botton righthand corner of the recent databases box?

Yes there is! Does that mean that if I fail to highlight a database that I no longer want, that it will automatically delete it and all of it's realated tables, etc.?

If so, that is terrific! I look forward to your reply on this...!
              Thanks!

Nope... that only edits the most recent databases list.

                  RE: Deleting (Erasing) a Database

OK - But would using that little box (and the resulting 'recent databases' list) allow me to delete a database and all of it's component tables, etc.?

(I'll admit, I only opened the little blue box with pen, and saw all of my recent databases highlighted, but I don't know exactly what to do with them at that point...)

                  Thanks!
