Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

RE: shortcut key to find by index

    John,

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but it sounds like you basically need to use an OnKey command. I'm pretty sure a search in the help files for OnKey will get you the info you need.

FWIW: My "standard" is to assign the F10 key as an "Enter New Record" key, F11 "pushes" my "Find" button, and F12 "pushes" my "Done" button.

By having the OnKey action push a button (EX: "Find_btn.push()"), I can uses a standard OnKey script for every form, name my buttons always the same (Find_btn, Done_btn, Enter_btn), and the results will always be based on the actions defined by the button on that particular form. This is useful for those situations where you decide, for example, to perform some additional action(s) before closing a form. For my Find operations, I often code the common Find actions to make it as easy as possible for the user. By putting them on the Find_btn button, the user simply presses the F11 key on any form to start whatever Find action is defined there.

RE: shortcut key to find by index

Some are in the documentation under "Shortcut Keys" - some are not (are you listening Ed?)

            Shortcut Keys

Shortcut keys allow access to menu commands with a single keystroke. The following shortcut keys assist you in viewing, entering, and changing data in Forms and Browses:

            Keystroke
            Action
            Keystroke
            Action

            F8
            Switch to Browse/Form view
            CTRL END
            Go to last record

            F3
            Allow Edits
            PAGE DOWN
            Next record

            F6
Move to the next region on a Form
            PAGE UP
            Previous record

            F5
            Refresh display
            CTRL M
            Mark record

            CTRL E
            Enter new record
            CTRL U
            Unmark record

            ESC
            Cancel changes/enter
            CTRL D
            Delete record

            F9
            Commit change/enter
            CTRL T
            Dial Telephone

            CTRL HOME
            Go to first record
            CTRL N
Inspect memo in the Memo Editor

            CTRL N
Selects New from the File menu
            CTRL O
Selects Open from the File menu

            CTRL S
Selects Save from the File menu
            CTRL P
Selects Print from the File menu

            ALT BACKSPACE
Selects Undo from the Edit menu
            CTRL X
            Cut

            CTRL C
            Copy
            CTRL V
            Paste

            CTRL F
            Find by Form
            CTRL SHIFT T
            Insert the current time

            CTRL SHIFT F
Copy field value of last viewed record into the current record
            CTRL SHIFT R
Copy all field values from the last viewed record into the current record

            CTRL SHIFT D
            Insert today's date
            CTRL ENTER
During data entry, saves the current record and begins entering a new record.

            Entering Date and Time Values

When either a forms or browse is visible, selecting Edit " Insert " Date or Edit " Insert " Time will insert the date or time into the current field.

When using the keyboard shortcut, Control+Shift+T, to insert a time stamp into a field, you can change the time stamp format using the Settings dialog box. Select View " Settings " Preferences " Time Format " Time Stamp Format.

See the TIME() function for information on the syntax of the time format string.

Tip: To create a time format string interactively, go to the Interactive window and type "time(". Alpha Five will prompt for the "time_format". Right-click and a genie will appear.

            There can be only one.

                As I indicated...

Some are listed, some are not.

If you poke around the menus you will find those missing from the list.

                Screenshot attached.
