Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

problem viewing browse using system toolbar

I am having a problem when switching from form view to browse view and was wondering if any one can duplicate it. I have downloaded the latest patch so that is not the problem. What happens is when I first open a form the first thing I do is click on the Find By Key button on the toolbar. I find the part I am looking for, and close the find by key box. I then hit the Browse View button on the toolbar and I recieve two errors before the browse actually opens. Both errors say the same thing. ("Table Name":Tables:"Table Name" not found). "Table name" refers to the name of the table I am working in. I have tried this in multiple tables and I always get the error. It happens on multiple computers as well. One way to get around it is to create a button on the screen to open the browse. As long as you don't use the toolbar button it works. If I page through the records and then use the toolbar browse button I get no error. Any Help Would be appreciated

Thought i would bring this back to the top.
Just replicated using build 1466-1044 so its not a recent phenomenon

Can't offer a solution i'm afraid - it needs a much more savvy person.

RE: problem viewing browse using system toolbar

      Kevin,

I've just verified the behavior you're seeing on my Win98SE system, using AlphaSports.

If I open the Invoice form, then
press Ctrl-K and supply a target record number, then
      execute the find, then
close the find by key dialog, then
press F8 to shift to browse view...

I get the tables not found error messages you describe, and then the browse view occurs just fine. It works, but it's ugly and alarming.

I think what's happening is the Invoice form has not yet received focus when the find by key dialog closes. If you click on another field in the form before pressing F8 the errors do not appear and the browse display occurs seamlessly.

      I'm using build 1506.1058

Interestingly, you get the same result if you leave the find by key dialog open.

        Kevin

If a button to open the browse works, a simple workaround would be to create a custom toolbar and have create a toolbar button that "pushes" the button. For example, create a button with the code to open the browse. If the button is named "button1", this will "push" the button and run the code.

        topparent:button1.push()

The button can be hidden and you can still push it in xbasic. Actually, if I were using the browse view for most actions, I would put an embedded browse on a form, rather than using a browse layout. The form layout has many more options, such as from events, etc and is much more flexible.

          Thanks for the reply's

FOr now I will just find a workaround like you suggested. Hopefully the problem will be fixed in upcoming patches.

          Thanks
