Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Action Script- Select Variable Error

    Hi
I downloaded the PROGRESSIVELOOKUP from Alpha 5 Tutorials, wrriten by Mr. Jim Chapman.
I had a problem that I can not create(or see) the Variable list (previous saved variable field, such as "vTypeIn or vSelect") in the dialog box as shown on page No. 72 in his tutor. I followed his directions completly. I even typed the same value in the filter Builder as page on 79 but it did not work.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

Can you zip your database and attach it to a message on the board?

Your original message stated - I followed his directions completly.

Well, not exactly. Jim's script works well, but you've made a number of changes from how it was set up. You can use his script as he presented, but when I make that many changes, I do it one at a time to make sure they work.

It may help to work with the control K option - find by key - to get what you want.

You can also visit www.learn alpha.com to see another example of progressive lookup.

                    Hi Tom & Al
I made new Winzip files and attached.
My problem is that not able to see the varialbe item(fields) lists in the Select Dialog box. Please,(1)Open the "file by project" at code on the control box. (2)Edit the Display an xDialog box (3)choose the "vSelect_project" and (4)click the Define record list (5)Use the Filter builder at Filter (6) Open the Expression Builder then you will see the error message as " Invalid or incompleted.." at bottom. (7) so I open the Variable(f6) on Left but I can not see the Variable field, which should be vType_project (or others) in the select Variable Dialog box. I think I made or missing something.

Get the latest patch from the download center and start over. That's a very old version.

The code that was generated from the genie left a lot to be desired in that old release. You'll like the new release much better.

From the control panel, click help - check for new version, check internet for new version.

That will open a browser window to the download page. Select the proper FULL or HOME version and download it and save it on your hard drive.

Close all Alpha 5 programs and any other programs and run the patch.
