Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Labels

I am a UK user, trying to use the labels facility.

We use A4 paper rather than Letter size. The standard Avery label sheet is J8160 which is not on the standard list. When I set up a special size, if I want to adjust it, I cannot find anyway to edit my original settings. I have to go through the whole process of setting everything up from scratch.

Pressing design just takes me into a print format screen that does not have the necessary functionality.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance

    RE: Labels

    Ian,

Have you tried right clicking on the saved custom label layout, and then choosing design off the drop down list that appears? You could then use 'Save As' to create a duplicate that could be altered and re-saved.

      RE: Labels

Thanks Tom, but it is the altering that is the problem. As far as I can see, in design mode you can alter the size of the text box and move it around the label, but you cannot alter the size of the label, or the gutter widths etc. You can only do these when setting up the label in "new" mode.

      Thanks anyway

        RE: Labels

        Ian,

When you click, Lable, Size... from the menu,
If you change 'Type of Label'
        from
        'Use standard size from library'
        to
'Store custom size with label layout'

you should be able to make the changes needed.

        regards,
        Melvin

          Thanks Melvin

It may be because I am being stupid, or it may be because I have the home edition rather than the full edition, but I can get into the screen you describe when setting up a new label, but not on an existing label.

When you say "click Label, Size ... from the menu", where do you mean exactly. Imagine I have a current label in the control window, and I have highlighted it. Which menu do I click to edit the label sizes?

I am sorry to ask again, but I am obviously missing something.

Thanks in advance for your help.

            RE: Labels

            Ian,

I misunderstood. You don't need to change the layout of an individual label, you need to be able to easily create a series of new label layout sizes. For this I think you must do it one at a time.

              Hi Ian,

I am constantly modifying my original label designs. When I go into design mode for my label, click on lable then size, verify that my label is highlighted, click on the edit button to the right. I have also needed to modify other settings found under object >> properties .. page tab.

Is this what you are looking for?

Thanks very much, and thanks Melvin an Tom

I have been very slow. I have missed the fact that the very top tool bar changes once you are in the design mode.

I have been looking at it, but not "seeing" it.

Thanks again and sorry for my stupidity!

                Kind regards
