Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha 5 Unrecoverable Error

    Hi All,
    I am getting this error when I click on one button of my form. The form will not open but would give me the "Alpha5 Unrecoverable Error; Unhandled Exception. Alpha5 will do a forced termination."

    Other buttons are working fine, can open the other forms/tables. This is only happening on one machine, other machines are working fine.

    I have removed and reinstalled the Alpha 5 application and even installed the latest patch. It is still giving me this error.

    The machine is HP Brio P3 and running Win 98SE.

    Appreciate any help. Thanks.

    What is the button doing? What is the code on the button action? There is apparently some conflict in the code that the program can not resolve.

      RE: Alpha 5 Unrecoverable Error

      I don't think that it has to do with the code. The button is working fine on other machines. This is the only machine that we are having this problem.

      Below is the code I have for the button:
      if is_object("form1") then
      form1.show()
      form1.activate()
      else
      :Form.view("form1")
      end if
      parentform.close()

        Can you open the form from the controlpanel? The problem mayt not be the code, but a problem with the form. If this is a network optimized terminal, either refresh the shadow or run network optimize. Either will copy the form designs from the server and overwrite the local copy.

          I already did refresh network and even re-created the shadow from the control panel. I wish I could send the database for you to try it but the problem could not be re-created. The database is working to all the machines except for this one. I am really at a loss here.

          Any ideas I could try, I would greatly appreciate it.

            Alpha 5 Unrecoverable Error

            In this thread is exactly what is happening in our office --
            I have done all that Trixie did too to try and resolve this problem.

            Were there any resolutions? (We are running XP OS on a Dell computer)

              Forced termination

              Hi:
              I downloaded the most recent Alpha 5 v 7 3030. I opened up the Contact Manager Template and moved through the main menu. I closed the menu, closed the file and then received the following Unrecoverable Error message,
              "Unhandled Exception. Alpha 5 will do a forced termination." I made no changes, added no new records, just did a navigation to get this to happen.

              Any one have the same issue or find the same thing happening?

              Thanks.

                Defragmenting seems solution

                I looked further in the forum and found someone had tried defragmenting their hard drive. So, that is what I did and it seems to have resolved this issue for me.

                  Re: Alpha 5 Unrecoverable Error

                  Just updating this from June -- What fixed my problem was deleting a network printer from the one machine where the button would not work and then re-installed it -- No error messages or problems thereafter -- I read this somewhere else in the forum (about deleting a printer) and Jim Chapman had mentioned it too, but in the thread where it was mentioned it seemed to be looked down upon as not a viable solution. Just wanted to let others know what worked for me.
