Hi all,
I sniffed around here quite a while and posted some questions which a lot of readers read and if they wanted replyed. Such being the case I would like to thank Peter Wayne, Tom Mills, Raymond Lyons, Robert Gowan and Thomas Henkel who took the time to read my concerns. They have pushed me over the line to get a A5v5 update (from 5.0.2). It's a great product.
For those who like it I'll tell something about my background. Starting as a electronic draftman at Hollands Signaal now being known as Thales I swiched to a the field of education and work as an IT employe at a curriculum foundation at a 50/50 bases helpdesk/application building, in particular VBA/Word templating and Filemaker.
Besides this I'm helping my wife with her Secretary company.
She uses Filemaker Pro/Developer for the client contacts. If the tasks are growing more and more complex I have to create workarounds (some Filemaker developers call it "The Filemaker Way") to get things done. Filemaker looks like a big PLC (programmable logic controller) i knew from my electronics days. I had some slight experience with A5v1 and decided to look at A5V5. I saw that the things I wanted to use (cascading lists, filtered sets) was done in a better way. You can do it in Filemaker but it costs you a lot of effort and the way it is implemented is not the way I like.
So far something about my background. The next thing I'll do is converting our Client application to Alpha as a case study. I'll expect to encounter all the problems everybody encounters when new to Alpha Five but I'll hope to learn a lot of this forum and the very good manuals of Alpha Five.
Thanks,
Marcel
