Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Copy Operation

    Howdy Folks...trying to run a saved "copy records" operation using a script triggered by an "onpush" button event. I keep getting the following error:

    Script: TEMPLATE line 45: a_table.copy()
    No such table

    I am not doing anything too complex. Just grabbing a few records to dump to the results table. I then would like to use the results table to print some reports. When I run the operation I get the "x number of records will be copied to the results table. Do you want to proceed?" message like it's going to run normally, then I get the error. At first I thought that this was because I needed to create a table for the results to be dumped to, but this does not work. So, I've tried without the table existing, and with the table already built. Same results. Please see XBasic for the script:

    'Run an Operation that was previously defined.
    query.filter = ""
    query.order = ""

    DIM operation_name as c
    operation_name = "UnpaidDuesReport"
    If operation_name "" then
    copy.run(operation_name,query.filter,query.order)
    End if

    Any thoughts?

    RE: Copy Operation

    The script you post has at most nine lines, if we count the blank line.

    I'm wondering where the line 45 is in the

    "Script: TEMPLATE line 45: a_table.copy()
    No such table "

    I'd use the debugger to see what's really happening when you push the button.
    There can be only one.

      Stan,

      I think the error message is referring to a line number in the saved operation script.

      Dennis,

      Show us the 'processed Xbasic' script the genie wrote for you in the saved copy operation.

      Then tell us how you're 'grabbing a few records' before running the operation.

      Did you define the op to copy 'All' records, or 'Currently Selected' ?

        RE: Copy Operation

        Morning Tom.

        I used a filter expression, searching for records where field "Paid_to_Date" = F to get the records. Sorry...should have been more specific.

        Not at my machine right now, but will grab the processed Xbasic when I can. Any instructions on how to do that?

          RE: Copy Operation

          Dennis,

          To see the 'processed' script used by the saved operation do this. Open the saved operation in design mode. Press the XB icon and choose 'view processed xbasic' (not the raw, and not the run silent). Copy to clipboard, paste in message here.

          If I were doing this I'd probably set it up like this initially:

          1) design the copy operation to run against 'currently selected' records. (I would not do any filtering within the operation).

          2) design the button's OnPush event to simply run the saved operation, without doing any filtering.

          3) View the form

          4) Run query by form to select the desired records

          5) Push the button

          A requirement of this approach is that the form needs to be based on the same table that you're using as the source table for your copy operation.

          This is a no frills, KISS, approach. Using it you will be able to verify that the operation is working as you expect. Once you get it going, if you want to automate particular steps, or need to move the button to form that's based on a different table or set, let us know.

            I had the same problem about a week ago. Do a search for Armour and you will find Selwyn's answer.

              Thanks...I'll check it, however I did not convert from 4.5, so I'm a little lost on why this would be an issue.

                It's debatable as to whether this came from A5V4. The fact was that when I looked into my operation the fieldname included the table name whereas V5 excludes the tablename. I recreated the operation and it worked OK.
