Unique Count Test

Hi Gang,
I trying to Count a Unique Street Addresses.

I start with "If(key_unique("Street_Add"),1,0)"
[where Street_Add is an index on street]

then I do a Calc Field Running Total on the above field,

....well you pros know that this is not working :-(

Where did I go wrong?

Since you already have the index, there is a much easier way.

a5_get_records_in_query("YourTableName","KEY_UNIQUE('Street_add')")

This will give the number of unique street addresses.

The function returns the total number of records that are unique in the index. You could use that result in an if statement if you want.

if(a5_get_records_in_query("YourTableName","KEY_UNIQUE('Street_add')") > 50,"More than 50 found","Less than 50 found")

If there are more than 50 records that are unique, the if function will return the text "More than 50 found"

If you just want to see the numeric result of the function, open the interactive window and type

?a5_get_records_in_query("YourTableName","KEY_UNIQUE('Street_add')")

I didn't comepletely realize what you were telling me the first time and I was trying to use it in an "IF" statement only to come back and use a calc running total on it .. to use in a report.

I see now that I don't need to use a running total on it, as it does a total unique test count.

However, when I use the below, as a calc field. It is constantly counting, heck if I change the font it starts counting.

a5_get_records_in_query("Customers","KEY_UNIQUE('Street_add')")

Essentially, the function is running a query and returning the result. I doubt using it in a calculated field is going to work. It would work to fill a variable however. If you need the total on a form, use the function to output to a variable and put the variable on the form. If you want the total in a report, place the variable in the report and calculate its value in the OnInit print event.
