Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ctrl-shift-f not working

I am using the most recent build and I have tried everything I can think of but I can't figure out why Ctrl-Shift-F will not work. When I try to use it the find by form pops up. I have also tried using Ctrl-Shift-R and it does nothing. I am in enter mode and have tried it on multiple computers. Other users on the system have tried it as well with no luck.

Is anyone else having a problem with this?

    Any help appreciated

    RE: ctrl-shift-f not working

    Kevin,

Others have also mentioned having problems with the copy previous field/record shortcuts keys, I would quess that Alpha is working on that.

Have you tried the using the same "Copy Previous" commands from the Edit Menu? I think they work.

      RE: ctrl-shift-f not working

I too have had trouble using Ctrl Shift R. It has worked very well in other vers. I have let Alpha know about my problem some time ago, but so far, it has not been corrected. I have noticed that if I have a table with a lot of field rules, the Ctrl Shift R just do nothing, whereas if the table only has a few (1 or 2) field rules, the Ctrl Shift R does work.

In my work, I have a few DBF's that use mult orders from many customers. It is sure a pain NOT USING CTRL SHFT R. I have gone back to A5V4.5, or A4V7 which works like it should.

        RE: ctrl-shift-f not working

        Hi,

Any news on this? I, too, am having trouble on getting CRTL+SHIFT+F to work on my Forms. It was working, but now seems to have stopped. I can't say which build caused the problem. Sometimes, I also get the Find by Form to popup when I push this combination, but not all the time.

CTRL+SHIFT+F does still work on my default browses and forms, just not on my Custom Forms. It is almost as if Alpha 5 thinks my forms are in Change mode, rather than Enter mode.

I really need to be able to use CTRL+SHIFT+F. Hope someone figures out what the problem might be soon!

        Robin

          RE: ctrl-shift-f not working

i just tested it in alphasports and it worked fine.

can you confirm that it does not work for you in alphasports?

if it works in alphasports, but not in one of your forms, then please send me the form.

          thanks.

            Hi Selwyn,

I did try it in Alpha Sports and it works. It does not work in my forms, although it did at one time. I won't be at work until Monday, but I will send it then.

            Thanks,
            Robin

              Ctrl Shift f Work-around

Just found a work-around for Ctrl Shift F (copy prev record). I too could not make it work. However one time I was trying and nothing happened. But, I hit the Enter key by error, and ZAP, there was my Prev Record. I have tried it several times since, and it seems to work every time for me. PS. I do have many field rules with the record I am using.
