Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    auto populating image fields

I have a table record that contains an image type field. Each record has a record ID (in this case used as an Athletes unique ID). The client has taken photographs of each athelete and saved tham as athleteid.jpg - so 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 101.jpg etc. All jpg's have been saved in to one sub directory under there main a5 app directory. Rather than them having to right click / import in a maintenance form for each athelete in order to save the image to the record image field, is there a way I can import/load the images on mass.

I know how to read in a list of files in a directory, and locate the athlete record for each athelete id that can be derived from the image name, but how do I actually 'emulate' the right clcik/import of the image? I have searched but can not locate the xbasic to do that final step. No doubt there will be a little function somewhere that allows me to give it the image file path/name and effect the import of the images?

    Regards,
    Scott

A weird result with this one - I will need to go back (tomorrow) and check my code. Images not displaying in the image box on the right when I click on the path in the browse om the left (after loading some images). I will look closer at it tomorrow.

Thanks for your help - much appeciated.

Not sure yet - will look at it some more in the next few hours. If it worked on prior releases then possibly a bug or different approach required in v6.

            Regards,

I have tried it with V5 with no luck but haven't had a chance to delve deeper yet.

Run it under debug and you will see an error - I am re-working it now.

This works for me - maybe the exampel will help you - see comments in the code.

                    Hi Scott

I'm not sure if I can help you as I'm trying to solve with automated file import into RTF fields. I guess the concept is the same. I see the code above on the image import - but can you point me in the right direction on file import generally?
                    Best regards
                    Al

                      Al,

I don't think you have the same situation.

An image reference field is designed to hold a reference to a .bmp or .jpg file. There is a function to turn the full path of such a file into the format necessary for an image reference field ( image_filename_encode() ). Nothing is stored in the image reference field except a "pointer" to the actual file.

If I read your other post correctly, you want to import the contents of a word document into an rtf memo field.

                      This is a different matter.

I see the code above on the image import
Nothing is being imported in the code above.
                      There can be only one.
