Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Backup A5V6

I backup the database to the server.
I want to reformat my computer.
After I reload Windows XP will I be able to restore from the server without any A5V6 information on my computer?

    Thanks

    Re: Backup A5V6

    Jeff,

How about a bit (read as A LOT!!) more information for others to help.

    such as:

    What server??
Restore what?? The database? The data??
Explain what "A5V6 information" is--the A5V6 program? The Database created by A5V6? The Data that was in the database?

Just guessing even as to what you may have intended. :)

Help us help you and you will most likely receive a ton of help!
    Mike

The server mentioned is a company server used to backup files. This is where I backup the A5V6 database.

Yes I want to restore the database from the A5V6 backup file on the server.

How can I restore the database back to my computer after I wipe out the original A5V6 program?

We're having trouble with this because it doesn't make much sense to restore a backup if you are not re-installing Alpha. If you want to preserve the files and not re-install Alpha, zip them before reformatting and unzip them after, no Alpha need to unzip the files.
        There can be only one.

          Re: Backup A5V6

Jeff, you still need to supply some more help. I will make a quick guess and hope this is what you are meaning.

          1) You use A5v6 on your desktop that is connected to your companies "file server"
          2) You back up all of your A5v6 APPLICTATION and DATA to the "file server"
          3) You then want to reformat your drive, reinstall Windows and then restore your APPLICATION and DATA and then be able to run your A5v6 application

If I am on track, you will need to make sure that you are backing up your application files and your data files. Once Windows is reinstalled then restore these files to the same locations and directories. Re-install A5v6 to use your application.

If this is not right, then we need you to explain what and to where you are backing up, and what you want to do with the data when you have finished installing Windows.

Yes, you are correctly interpreting my question.

Where/How can I get a copy of A5V6 to load back on to my computer so I can restore with data backup from the server? I downloaded the program and have no copy and I do not think the program will let me make a copy.

              Jeff,

Contact Alpha directly...if for some reason they refer you back to this forum to locate a copy then someone here should have it (I have the Trial version somewhere but cannot locate it at the moment).

Jeff, you will still need your licensing info to register it. So you better see if you can find that as well.
