Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Weird and not so nice

I had A5v7 open and left it to do some online shopping. When I came back and opened up a script in the code editor, down in the lower right hand corner, I see the web page title that I made the purchase from.

It is not a clickable link, nor - in this case - does it show any private information, but it simply should not occur.

If you wish, I can email the screen image, but do not want it included here.

That shows data from your clipboard. If you don't want data from your clipboard to be displayed anywhere, you shouldn't put it on your clipboard or you should put something else in your clipboard afterwards.

Okay, I accept the rather curt response as fact, but why on earth would A5 display information from the clipboard on a Script Editor screen?

Actually, I would guess that this is a Windows hiccup rather than Alpha5. I have seen this happen before with other applications on a random basis.

It is there because knowing what is on your clipboard is useful information when writing code.

I'm sorry if my response seemed short. I was just trying to answer your question concisely.

            Sorry, but:
            • The space is too short to show anything meaningful,
            • It isn't anywhere I could find in the help files or online documentation, and
            • IMNSHO it just shouldn't be there, especially when it is not identified.

Saying not to put something on the clipboard, or remembering to clear it is, well, not very realistic, again IMNSHO.

            ;)

This baffled me also before I realized it was from the clipboard. I had been working in another app and had copied some code. I then opened Alpha and I could understand how the code I had been working on in the other program was somehow showing up in Alpha. It wasn't until I copied some text in Alpha that I realized it was from the clipboard. I agree it is way too small to be of any use and can lead to confusion if you are working with different apps.

As someone who works in Xbasic a lot, I find this feature indispensable. It show me at a glance just what was the last text I placed on the Windows clipboard. To me it's a brilliant innovation!

I agree. I am using xbasic more and more and find this feature very useful. Although what is visible is limited it helps in letting me know if what I just copied actually copied and if what is there is still useful.
