Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Chris, the message board is peer supported. Not the official means to report bugs. Use the Send a Bug Report option on the Alpha Five Help menu.

Alpha folks visit the forums from time to time, but it's a mistake to assume they actively monitor all threads. They don't.

Re: Printer not activated, error code -30

I know that this is kind of an old thread, and the problem with getting the message "Printer Not Activated - Error Code -30" has been addressed in many previous forum posts, but I've yet to find a solution.

I've just installed the lastest version of A5/V7 (4130_3033) on a brand new server running Windows Server 2003 - Standard Edition - SP1, and everything works fine expect the "Save As PDF" command. As soon as you try to save as a PDF, that familiar message pops up saying that the printer is not activated.

In looking at the properties of the print driver itself, there is a place to enter a user code and activation number, but I think that is only used when the Amyuni PDF writer package has been purchased, and you can actually "Print" to PDF. Since A5 is only using the "print driver" as a means of getting to the "Save As" command, I wouldn't thing that the "activation" would be required. Still, that message pops up whenever we try to save to PDF.

I did find this message in the Release Notes section of "About Alpha Five:"

      Alpha Five V7 4035-3027 - Apr-28-2006
      Bugs

PDF Printing - If you saved a report as a PDF file, if the report did extensive pre-calculations, Alpha Five would report an error "Printer not activated, error code -30". This has now been fixed.
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------
It would seem that the problem had been resolved some time ago, and since the version I just installed is the latest version, I shouldn't be getting this message. Plus, these reports that I'm trying to save to PDF are not complicated, have no complex calculations in them, and the same behavior exists when using the sample AlphaSports application.

I'm just wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem?

(Note: This is not related to a similar post by me regarding the problem of installing the PDF drivers in Windows Server 2003 x64 Operating Systems)
