Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: tab order not saving

Info for those of you experiencing the same problem - we are not alone! I just found a simple solution to my problem in Garry Flanigan's response to "Tab Order" thread posted on 11-16-04 (a5v6) and "Another Bug Tabs are Wrong" thread posted on 6-20-05 (a5v6).

    1. Rt. click on each tab. Tab submenu - "select all" - ungroup (this was the key step for me!)
    2. Delete all unnecessary tab stops (alpha automatically set each field I put on this form designed in a5v4 as a stop)
    3. Arrange tab order by table (for some reason setting By Example is still giving me goofy results when I save. By example is how I always set tab order in a5v7 with no problems.) Apply and Save.

Now when I close and get back into the form, the tab stops are still in the order I saved them. I still have some issues - when I leave an embedded browse, I can't resume the tab order, a couple of stubborn fields, and 2 RFT objects showing up on my tab stops that I can't find anywhere on my form - but at least my problem with saving the order seems to be solved.

Thanks, Mike, for the time you spent on this, but I knew there had to be a simpler way!

Time to learn the workings of the Object Explorer. You can locate those rtf objects easily.
      There can be only one.

        Becky,
No problem with my time spent on your problem--best way I know of to learn faster!

I too use the table method to set tab stops as the "by example" I find is usually too easy to mess up the order especially when there are a lot of stops.

Tim and I showed you a few ways in which to "get out of the browse". Have you tried them yet?

And Stan has just pointed to you how I got rid of the tab stops of the RTF fields--I didn't mention this as thought you had already done this!

Any questions on any of this just ask!

Thanks again, Stan and Mike. I'll try the Object Explorer - I was just getting ready to ask how to do that.

Mike-No, I haven't tried your browse exit code yet. F6 works fine, and I haven't decided how I want to move beyond that. Thanks

            Becky,
Did you get this to work? I had the same problem when moving an application from ver4 to ver8. It appears that the old code in the hidden box trick is not needed anymore, and that was partly messing things up. I also found that an RTF field on the form was a problem, and after removing that got things to work just fine. Good luck.

              Re: tab order not saving

For what it is worth, I finally had to resort to forcing the order that I wanted using fieldname.activate() as the Xbasic script on the OnDepart event.

                Becky,

thanks for starting this thread. I got rid of my rtf's,ungrouped the tabs and all is good here. I have been trying to get this fixed for some time and thought it was just inherent with tabs. It makes a big difference to me and my clients.
