Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Shifting Position Xdialog

    Here is a mystery, at least for me. Check out the modeless Xdialog that moves across the page with OnFetch form event. I haven't a clue why.... do you?

    The script is in the Form OnFetch event. It was written hoping to report whether the record in focus has other correlated records in the table and therefore a "duplicate".

    Open the database,and it will open to the form. The Xdialog will appear at positon 1,1. Push the 'Next' navigation button to move to the next record and watch the Xdialog move positions. If it goes off the page, it will not return unless you COMPLETELY close out of A5 and re-enter. It you close it and move to the next record, it starts again at the begining position.

    Any Xdialog guru's understand this?

    Preliminary diagnosis: "Corrupted Form".
    Re-try in another form.

      Gabriel,
      I downloaded the posted example and tried it on my work machine to make sure it wasn't something goofy with my home unit. You are not seeing the Xdialog march across the page (see pics) with Next record event?

          This is v7, 4130, build 3133. It tried it in my v8, 1257, build 3055 and it does it there too. Maybe someone else might try and speak. Very odd.

            I'm using v7, 4130, build 3033 - not 3133 as you show.

            No problems here. the dialog pops up as it should and once closed reappears after navigating to a new record. The screen shots that you showed makes me think that it is a progressional loop for positioning that does something like 1,1 / 5,5 / 10,10 etc. After reviewing your code, my noobie eyes couldn't decifer anything like that. However, not knowing a lot about XDialog the following statements seem like the only potential suspects:

            Code:
                {startup=clock}
                {interval=3}
                {timer=clock}
            Otherwise, don't know where else to look.

              I see what your seeing Mike. Using V8 1391_3068. The problem is the {position=1,1}. Removing it from the script keeps the dialog in the same position. Another option is to insert
              Code:
              if ui_modeless_dlg_exist("Pat_Dups") then
                  ui_modeless_dlg_close("Pat_dups")
              end if
              at the beginning of the script to close the existing box first.

              The help file for the {position} command would seem to indicate that it shouldn't keep adding the 1,1 in your script to each time the dialog is refreshed but it does. Maybe a bug?

                I was about to ask: what happens if you remove the popsition command, but that question has already been answered. Now, what if you change it to Modal?

                  Re: WHAT THE HECK ??? Shifting Position Xdialog

                  Yes, my v7 build is 3033 not 3133.
                  Yes taking the {position1,1} out certainly corrects the issue, except not it's as you guessed, in the center of the form, just where I don't want it.

                  And lastly if it is changed to a modal xdialog, it becomes a timed box, and closes at the {interval=3}. OK, time to go home for the day.... Thanks all.
