Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can't Display Full Data in a Set in GUI

    Hi Aaron,

Im using Alpha5 V7, and I have the following issue:

I create a set with SerialProfile as the parent table, and child tables are the ones that are represented in each tab. When I search for a serial number (serial number is the only key), only the information of the SerialProfile table shows up (under the Unit Identity box). Other information from the child tables (in the tabs) does not appear at all. But when I select each tab and click on each field, the information of that clicked field shows up. I dont know whether this is the refresh issues or data link issues or something else. Please advice!

If this is the bug of V7, please tell me if the V8 can fix this bug. We plan to move to the newer version.

    Thank you for your help.

    Philippe

Ps: I want to attach the screen shot of the GUI, but I can't.

I think you are not getting any answers because there are still too many unknowns. It might be partly a refresh issue but it might be something to do with the way you are running your Find operation.

Any chance you could post a sample app that demonstrates the issue?

        Hi Philippe,

When you are replying to a thread and typing your instructions, just above the typing window you will see a paperclip. Click on this to attach your zip file. See attached.

Thanks Cheryl. The attach is my sample database. Please use 222 to search for a serial number.

            Philippe,

There is a problem with your attachment as it did not include the SerialProfile. From what I was able to open, it appears that either you have tables in more than one directory structure, OR when you zipped the database you used the directory structure??? Not sure what happened. Perhaps it would be easier to just use windows explorer to zip the files in your db directory?

              Cheryl,
The SerialProfile must be included in the zip file. if you have problems with opening the database, please email me at [email protected]. I'll send you the zip file again.

                Philippe,

I found that the zip had all your files but a problem occurred trying to run your app as there were hard coded paths in the form. I got around that by just duplicating your form and viewing the duplicate.

I did a search as you requested for 222 and it came back with info. At first I was confused by the Customer Problems text box as it was filled with XBasic code. After looking at the data in the table I realized that this is what you have there. When I change to the second tab, all the info is displayed there as well.

                This was using Alpha5v8.

                  Thanks Cheryl.
I have V6 and V7. Both has problem with the tabs. When I click the search button, only the data under the 'Equipment ID' appears and there is nothing in the tabs. But when I click on the each component on the tab, the data appears.

So I think V6 and V7 have problems with refreshing the graphics.

                    Philippe,

If you do a search on using tabs, you will find that they create a lot of problems.

                      Thanks Doug.

I totally agree with you. it takes too long to refresh/repaint the tabs. it tried to create nested tabs (tabs inside tabs), it damaged the form. I can't open the form anymore. when I tried to open the form with the nested tabs, the Alpha was completely shut down. So I have no choice except for deleting the form and recreate a new one from scratch. what a frustration!
