Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Robin,

      THAT'S IT!! The function A5_toolbar_open() is the key. It allows you to display a previously defined toolbar as a local toolbar (which goes away when the form loses focus, just as if it was assigned in form properties), or as a global toolbar, which is exactly what I wanted.

      Thank you!

      Steve,

      Thanks for the design idea. For when I get around to upgrading.

      Peter,

      What can I say? Alpha Five spoils me. The more it does, the more I want it to do!

      Thread done, I think.

          Jose, have you considered the space issue...

          Are you designing this app to be used only by users with screen resolutions larger than 1024x768? If not, I assume your toolbar will either be two lines high or missing many of the standard icons because you can't possibly fit all the icons into a "one high" toolbar on a 1024x768 screen.

            Re: One toolbar and menu to rule them all

            Hi, Cal.

            It'll drop most of the standard icons. It's a really simple app.

            But just in case, a good option would be to split the icons between a second, third, and even fourth global toolbar, and open any number of them as needed independently of forms, just like the various toolbars in MS Word. I don't know if it's possible with A5, though.

              Re: One toolbar and menu to rule them all

              Hi,

              I have a Toolbar menu and scripts as
              Code:
              dim global gToolbarName as c
              ControlPanel.Minimize()

              gToolbarName = a5_toolbar_open("Navigation Toolbar",.t.)
              form.view("welcome")

              ControlPanel.Hide()
              As long as the Welcome form opened and display on the screen, the Toolbar menu is working fine as I designed(open a form). However, If I close the Welcome form, the Toolbar menu does not work and Error message pop up with Not an open table.

              Does any one know what did I missing?

                Re: One toolbar and menu to rule them all

                Hi John,
                The toolbars & menu are form dependent, so if the form closes and the control panel is hidden, your app is not active. Peter had an idea I borrowed to make a dummy form as small as possible that is the same color as the app background with no system menu showing so it looks invisible. If I can find the link to the thread I'll post it.

                    Robin,

                    Another Problem. Whenever I tried to Zip or Backup, I have the Warning -- The following tables are open. Proceed anyway? and List of the Tables.

                    My code is
                    Code:
                    'before closing the toolbar, make sure that the user did not already close it
                    IF ui_modeless_dlg_exist(gToolbarName) THEN
                       ui_modeless_dlg_close(gToolbarName)
                    END IF
                    'Close the form/browse called: Welcome
                    :Welcome.close(.f.)

                    a5_forceCloseTables() 'Will close all open tables
                    Did I missing something on the A5_forceCloseTables()?
