My question is probably a simple one, but Im a newbie. I built a database that Im serving over a network. I used Create Install Package to build my setup.exe (application files only) and ran the executable on my server. I placed the files in a shared folder. I then installed the Runtime software on a workstation, opened it up, and connected to the application files in the shared folder. Whew!!! Felt great.
My question is about what I should do when I want to update the master copy on the server. From what Ive read, I think I have an idea, but want to confirm before I do it. I think Im supposed to
1) Add any edits to the original database application using the developer software.
2) Get the data from the server folder into my latest version of my application.
3) Use Create Install Package again to make a new setup.exe (application files only).
4) Heres where Im asking for help: I think Im supposed to delete ALL the files in the shared folder on the server, then run the setup.exe again on the server and select the shared folder again.
5) Update shadow databases
Is that correct? From what Ive read on the message boards there are many A5 geniuses doing all kinds of sophisticated procedures with variables, automated tasks, and rocket launching codes, and unfortunately, its way beyond my present skills. For now, Im just looking for a basic way of doing things so that I can make my application available to my coworkers ASAP. I figure Ill learn the other stuff later when Im not under the gun for time.
