Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Re: Focus on Find by key

      I used your code adjusted for my index

      parentform.index_set("catno")
      parentform.find()
      end

      which works if the focus was somewhere in the form when the button was pushed. If the focus was elsewhere, the focus stays in the form and not in the find-by box, so the paste goes nowhere. Collowing the button with an <Enter> moves the focus and the cursor shows up in the find by box.

      Catno is the index based on the Catno field, c 10.

          Re: Focus on Find by key

          ^K is not a replication because the focus must be on the form for the Find-by box to come up. The problem happens only when the focus was elsewhere immediately before the button was clicked.

          The problem definitely happens if the focus was on Notepad immediately before the button was pushed. It also happens if some other forms had focus, but I didn't check all types of forms. Maybe the Menus are exempt.

                Re: Focus on Find by key

                Ok, now I see what you mean. With a button on the customer form of Alphasports. If the form is active, pressing the button opens the Find by Key dialog and gives it focus. If I give the control panel focus but have it placed so the button on the customer form is visible and then press the button the find by key dialog opens but the from remains in focus and not the dialog.

                I placed topparent.activate() in the flyover event of the button and it sort a works. If I am too quick (ie don't give the flyover event time to kick in) then it doesn't. But I am testing on a 800mhz machine with only 500meg of ram and probably a lot of my swapfile disk space used up :(

                I will test on my laptop later today.

                  Sandy,

                  Martin mentioned earlier that there are clipboard tools that can be used.

                  Here is a snippet using one such tool.
                  Code:
                  topparent.index_set("Catno")

                  Dim vClip as C
                  vClip = ClipBoard.Get_Data()

                  If key_Exist("Catno",vClip) Then
                      topparent.find(vClip)
                  Else
                      Msgbox("Not Found", "This value - " + vClip + " - not Found")
                  End If
                  This would find your record or not with out even opening the dialog.

                    I see now why I don't have the issue - you are working with "windowed" screens, while I am working with full screen windows - thus the 'control panel' is not visible in my apps.

                      Same here, that is why I did not see the issue right away as well. But the issue remains even with maximised forms when you activate a different program and then return to Alpha by pushing the button (ie it is the first port of call)

                        Re: Focus on Find by key

                        Good news/bad news.

                        topparent.index_set("Catno")
                        Dim vClip as C
                        vClip = ClipBoard.Get_Data()
                        topparent.find(vClip)
                        End

                        works so far, but it means the button cannot be used for a "normal" find. A different copy is made after the find, so wiping the clipboard wouldn't help.

                        A second button would be a manageable compromise.

                        Now to get rid of these crashes in the Action Editor ;-)
