Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Points Statement

    Hi All

    I am working on a system, and having a problem with the reports.

    I have 2 x tables, one is points earned earned and one is points used.

    Both tables have a client_Name field, but they both have many records for each client so that I am un able to create a one - many Link between the tables.

    I have done a report on the points earned, and published to the web etc with date range search and current user filter etc....

    I would like my report to be a Statement, and include data from the Points used table too.... showing a total points earned and a total points used + a Balance etc.

    Anyone any Idea How I can go about this?

    Thanks

    Miles

    Re: Points Statement

    Create a clients table with a single instance of each client. Link the present tables to it with one to many links.

    You probably need to establish some sort of client id field and link on that. Names are not good choices for linking/unique key fields.
    There can be only one.

      Re: Points Statement

      Yeah, I was thinking along these lines... but wasn't sure if there was another way...

      The data in the points earned table is imported every month, so if they get a new customer we would have to remember too add it to the table to link it all together....

      Thanks for your help.

        Append, unique records only.

          Hi Stan

          I think you are right and this is defo the way forward....

          I have now added a table for customers, I have added all the data for the customers I have... and created my linked set...

          Bingo, the report works a treat.... However this is a web report and the filter was based on the old Parent Table, now the customer table is the parent... thus I need my filter to filter from the Child Table....

          I have put the code from my dialog , aftervalidate component....

          fromdate = CurrentForm.Controls.From
          todate = CurrentForm.Controls.to
          cu = session.current_user

          IF eval_valid("fromdate") = .f. .or. eval_valid("todate") = .f. .or. eval_valid("cu") = .f. Then
          goto skipreport
          end if
          dim filter as c
          dim order as c
          Filter = "(between(Depart_date,ctod(\""+fromdate+"\"),ctod(\""+todate+"\")) ) .and. (Client_name = \""+cu+"\" )"
          Order = "Depart_date"
          Dim filename as c
          filename = session.session_folder + "tempreport.html"
          filename = report.saveas("points_link@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\norad_link.set","html",filter,order,filename,.f.)
          if file.exists(filename)
          currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.html?" + time("hms3")
          end if
          skipreport:

          Can you point me in the right direction to alter the code so it filters the report based on the child table?

          Many Thanks for all your help.

            Re: Points Statement

            You've posted in the Desktop area rather than one of the Web Application server areas but your original question was general enough for me to answer. I think you only need to edit the filter line to name the tables holding the fields you test.

            Code:
            Filter = "(between([COLOR="red"]sometablename->[/COLOR]Depart_date,ctod(\""+fromdate+"\"),ctod(\""+todate+"\")) ) .and. ([COLOR="Red"]sometablename->[/COLOR]Client_name = \""+cu+"\" )"

                Should that be

                  Hi Stan

                  I want to thank you again for your help with this, you have been a Star..

                  I amended my daft mistake in the code as you pointed out and now have the report back where it was, its pulling the right data from the child table and all is well on that front....

                  as always there is still a snag, On my report in desktop I added a grand total for the points used, from the other child table and that seems to work well.... But on the web it shows as zero...

                  Do I have to add another filter in the dialog control to get the data to show for this? I was under the impression the Link in the table set would handle this and I wouldn't need to code?

                  any thoughts would be greatly received.

                  Once again

                  Thanks
