Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Script:OnInit line:12

    Hi,

I have a customer running Alpha 5 V8 and they ran a virus scan yesterday as the system was running slow, since then everytime the main machine opens Alpha the following error pops up

    Script:OnInit line:12
    OpLocksOff()
    Function is not recognized

I have seen the threads about turning oplock off in registery but those keys are already set to zero - any ideas ??

OpLocksOff() sounds like a global user defined function, should be visible on the code page of the user's control panel. Is it there?

OnInit sounds like the onInit event script you've defined in the form that's opening. That script is having trouble finding the OpLocksOff() function.

Did someone else write your app for you?

      Hi Tom,

Thank you for the quick response, this app was written by another company for my client, that company seems to now be uncontactable so other than what happens on start up I can't see anything else - the 'PC' this is running on acts as a server for the company yet the other 4 users don't see this error when they start the app.

        Re: Script:OnInit line:12

I suppose this could be due to any number of things. This version of Alpha Five is getting pretty old. Hopefully, they're running on XP and not Vista or Win7.

I usually recommend not using the machine that's acting as server for any other purpose. There are just too many ways for Windows to crash or begin running slowly. Better to have a dedicated machine, even if it's only a PC, that is not used for any other purpose. I don't want someone at the keyboard, browsing the internet, downloading who knows what... using the machine that's got the shared data on it.

Have you tried shutting the troublesome machine off, and re-starting Alpha Five after you turn it back on?

OpsLockOff() I believe is an addin function that Cal Locklin wrote. You might want to check your addins installed folder to be sure it is there. If not, check the addins disabled folder - or download it again from Cal's site. Although I don't see it on his site

            optimistic record locking off??
You might also look to see if the other users have an .aex loaded and you do not have that. Did the antivirus program delete or quarantine an .aex file?
