Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Open Saved Import Operation in Design mode w/ XB?

    I can't seem to find the way this might be done. In a saved Import operation, I want the user to be able to use the button to 'Suggest Field Mappings' since this will correct any field size differences in the text file he is preparing for import. I want all the defaults in place so this is the only task he will need to do before running it from this screen. If anyone knows what code that button may be using...perhaps I could script it.

    You can create a button with an action script to do that, right? Right click on the action script element and choose View Xbasic. There's your code.

    operation_startup("import records","",.F.)
    There can be only one.

      Hi Stan,
      Yes, it takes you there for a NEW import operation. I was hoping for a way to get into design mode for a saved operation. As a workaround, I am trying to give a timed access to the control panel and let the user do this. Once the import card is open then the control panel can be hidden again. But getting the control panel to open to the Operation tab seems unlikely however.

      I could use sys_send_keys() IF I knew how to do this without a mouse! Any ideas for that? I tried using the control panel menu accelator keys - but first you have to have the correct tab active... Even limiting the display in the CP to not show any other tabs but Operations, still leaves the Tables tab available.

      I was hoping to avoid the extra step of bringing up a text editor to format the file and then importing that into Excel to save as a dbf - because we don't all have the same skill levels for doing this, or the same version of Excel.

        ptr = Import.Load("your_import_name")
        ptr.show()

        Not sure about bringing the card to the front.

          Stan - how did you find that??? I waded thru 13 pages of Wiki and couldn't find it. But it works swell with ptr.show() and ptr.activate() - thank you very much!

            Use the interactive and start typing.

            a5_op

            You'll see some things likely not in the documentation. Likewise

            import.

            the autocomplete will show you the methods available for the import object.

              Well I have my script now and have let the user set the timer for how long the Import Card stays open before it is closed automatically. I could not suppress the 'view result' at the end but was able to close that default browse if the user clicks that button and continue the script. I made a 'Step Menu' that takes the user thru the steps in order but leaves the options open to repeat a step or start over. The sub menus will take the user back to the opening list and set the default choice for the next option.

              If anyone is interested...
