Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha 5 ver 8 running on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit slowness taskbar flickering

Hello folks - yes, Alpha 5 ver. 8 bld. 1269 still running.

We've had to move to Windows 10 from Win 7 and we are experiencing slow response times from A5. We've also seen the Win 10 taskbar flicker when running A5. We've isolated A5 as the issue as the PC runs fine without A5 running.

Any suggestions to get this to serve up better or improve performance? PC has more than enough RAM and power. Tried DVI out, VGA and Display ports - does not appear to be the video card or driver (we think). Runtime issue???
Also tried numerous flavors of Compatibility mode with no success.

    Please help - thanks!

Joe, I never completely won the battle you are fighting, but on moving alpha to v11 or above, it cleared for me. Currently using a5v12 and no issues on apps built on v7 or above, but sketchy on V6 and back. Several of my group reported video cards caused the flickering. I believe, but can't remember who for sure replaced the vid card and solved his issue. An unresolved looping in an app can also cause this issue

Cheers Dave and thank you for the response. I've tried a separate video card and differing LCD's... tried to get it to run as an older version of Windows and on. I think an i7 Windows 10 PC is just too much for the older version we're running. Appreciate your response - thank you very much!

Joe, I believe your app will run fine when upgraded to V9. of course use the precaution of doing that on a test copy. If it does good, then move it to v11 before v12. Or just keep it on v11 for a while.

Very good - thank you for the update! Depending on what comes next year, we may go v9 - v11 - and maybe v12. Thanks!!!

I believe you have a lot of users and running shadowed, but win10 is inherently faster than win7 and 32 or 64 does not matter much. more people is slower always but usually not noticed much with your numbers.

Yep, we have a number of user's and they all run 'shadowed' for sure. As you said, with these new PC's along with Win 10 - way too fast for the A5 we're living with.

Not sure, but can I move a single user to V9 on the client PC or does that not work with the current dbase on the server....? If so, I'd have to find out how to get a copy of V9 and test it out.

              Thanks
