Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Drivers For Microsoft XP

I'm a user of Alpha 4, Version 6. It was running under Microsoft ME. I recently upgraded to Microsoft XP Professional. After the upgrade, it still run but only in half screen (horizonal) mode. I cannot get it to run in full screen mode. Is there a patch or driver available to correct this?

There are worse problems than the video display using older versions of A4 with XP. Data corruption can occur. Alpha released version 7 specifically to deal with compatibility issues with XP.

That doesn't necessarily solve the video display issues. Visit the version 7 forum and search for "video" to get an idea.

if you want alpha to go full screen you have to go into the properties and adjust the screen width to 80 and the screen height to 25 and also enable full screen. This should have alpha running in full screen.

        Larry,

I have NOT tested this is Win Xp, but it works in other flavors of Windows. When A4 opens, look across the top of the Alpha window and you should see a button with arrows pointing up, down, left and right. Click it and A4 drops into full screen mode (at least it does on my home Win 98 system and one of my clients' Win 2000 systems). To go back to the smaller (graphics) window, I think the sequence is either [Ctrl]-[Enter], [Shift]-[Enter] or [Alt]-[Enter]. I'm at school now, so I can't tell you for sure.

{alt}{enter} is the key to use.

Works on my version of XP

No comment on "Drivers for XP" but interested in Ver 6 on ME machine. Inherited an ME machine as substitute for W98 machine.

Tried innmerable times to install both Ver 6 and Ver 7 on the ME machine. The "run time" screen loads then nothing.
Will not accept ANY parametes for the database, script path, and application I want to run.

            Any thoughts?

There are some special issues for ME.

              Search the message board.
You said you had v7? Those issues are addressed in the documentation that comes with the software.

We have a small network and windows ME works just fine.
