Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Import from A4V6 to MS Excel

    Dennis,

Excel will read/write dbf files directly. If you are trying to use ordered
data from a form, with possible calculated fieldson the form, I'm not
saying it can't be done, but I don't know of a way. I believe you would
just have to open the dbf file and edit or change it to Excel.

If you want the data in a particular order, or if you want only a subset of your data, you can copy to a new database and the program should allow you to select the index you wish to use and a filter to select which records. Then Excel can read the .dbf file you've created with the data in the order you want and only the records you want.

RE: Import from A4V6 to MS Excel

What I would like is to transfer the fields on a form that are a one page summary, we call it a Certification of Analysis which represents 1 record from the master data base, to Excel. the reason being that our customers use an Excel "page" for the same data and we need to E-mail to them. So I intend to make an Excel page that look similiar to my A4 page and import/export from A4 to Excel. Is that possible ?
I must go to Excel because A46 is not capable of E-mailing, I been told.

Another way to handle this is to print the report to a file using the default printer driver. then open this file in a word processor, we use wordperfect but I guess word would work. You can then format it and email or fax it or whatever. The import and formatting can be done with a macro, which in WP is quite easy. This isn't as hard as it seems and can eliminate the need for excel.

            Dennis;
You can, in fact, export a report from A4v6 to Excel. I assume a form would work in a similar fashion. What is required, however, is that your report (or form) have a "," or ";" at the end of each column of your report. Then print the report to a file (not in typeset mode) with the printer "default" from the print driver file. Next go to Excel and open the file using the text import wizard, and your report will be there. You will have to do some column width changes etc, but it is all there.

            Hope this helps,
            Duncan

I have printed a report to file, and opened it in Excel with no problems. You have to do a little editing, but that is it.

Where do I put the "," or ";" you say at the end of each column. I have a report that is really a print of the form. The form has 50 fields and looks like an invoice with fields on the entire sheet, some in columns some not, something like this:

                Field: Field: Field:
                Field: Field: Field:
                Field: Field: Field:

                Field:
                Field:

                  Dennis;

You would have to put them after each field i.e.

                  Field, Field, Field,
                  Field, Field, Field,
                  Field, Field, Field,
                  Field,
                  Field,

Set up your report as a HTML document using tables. When you gernerate this HTML page, Excel or your browser can read it.
