Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Customer number Browser

Hi guys, some time ago I saw on these message boards something that one of the users had created that had a small alphabetical form where you could click on say the letter "B" and it would display all the customers whose name started with B.

I seem to have copied the form but no coding. If anyone remembers it or how I would go about implementing it it would be very much appreciated.

I've added a samll screen cap to see if it jogs anyones memory.

As usual thanks in advance for any assistance.

Greg, your screen capture seems to be from an Alpha Five application. But you've posted your question in a forum intended for Alpha Four questions. Are you looking for help with Alpha Five or Alpha Four?

      Re: Customer number Browser

Hi Tom and thanks for the reply. Yes, I am still using A5V4 but there doesn't seem to be a section for A5V4 anymore but I thought I had posted in an "earlier versions forum.

In any case are you familiar with the little customer browse in the pic?

I'm wondering how I could add it to my main form. I have a form that does what I want it to do, but not quite sure how to intergrate it into my main form, any ideas? Would you like me to upload the form that I have for you to have a look at?

Thanks in advance for any input,

      Regards
      Greg

I see. Confusion about the message board persists.

You've posted to a forum for Alpha Four, a DOS based predecessor to Alpha Five.

You are using version 4.5 of Alpha Five a different product, made for Windows, not DOS. It has a different forum here on the message board.

Don't feel badly. The naming systems have been confusing for many.

PS - there's a forum for older version of Alpha FIVE. Within it there's a forum for A5v4. However, I see that your image is coming from A5v8 and is a picture of a multi-state button. I don't think this type of button was available with A5v4. If I were going to build it in A5v4 I'd put 26 separate buttons on the form and program them separately.

Hi Tom and thanks for the info.

Now I understand the saying about assumption as I opened the form shown in the pic on my version and it worked perfectly hence my thinking that it would work.

The version I'm running is Alpha 5 ver 4.03 build 230

I'll dabble some more and see what I can come up with,

Thanks again for your time and effort,

          Regards
          Greg
