Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

ALPHA4V8 - DUPLICATED RECORDS IN SETS

In using the new version of ALPHA4 Vol 8 I have built my sets, but I keep getting all my records duplicated (actualy tripled). The weird thing is that I erased my set and rebuilt it and now the records came up six (6) times each. Has anyone else experienced this problem and how do I correct it?

    Please help.

Have you tried the database on a different computer with same results?

Yes, I installed this on two other computers, which seem to be working fine. All the data bases are working fine and linking them together by the same field, yet the linked sets duplicate the records three-fold. I've checked the individual databases to make sure I didn't have duplicate fields by mistake on the individual databases which I don't have.

The machine that I am using is a HP using Microsoft ME.

It would appear from what you say, that this is a specific hardware and or operating system error as the results can not be duplicated on other machines. You could also rule out an error in the A4 program by reinstalling the A4 program in a differenc location on Hard drive and trying the application again.

Do the duplicates exist when you open up individual databases or do they appear only in the set.

It may be a linkage problem with the set.

RE: ALPHA4V8 - DUPLICATED RECORDS IN SETS

ONLY IN THE SETS, THE DATABASES WORK FINE WITH NO DUPLICATIONS. I'VE ERASED THE SETS AND TRIED DEVELOPING NEW SETS AGAIN TO WHICH I STILL GET THE SAME PROBLEM.

I EXPERIENCED THIS ONCE BEFORE ON THE OLD VERSION #3 AND FOUND THAT MY PROBLEMS WAS THAT I HAD THE FIELD IN MY PRIMARY DATA BASE (WHICH I CALL PART NUMBER) LISTED TWICE. AFTER DELETING THE DUPLICATED FIELD IN THE INDIVIDUAL DATABASE I ELIMINATED THE PROBLEM, BUT THAT DOES NOT HOLD TRUE IN THE SET THAT I AM TRYING TO DEVELOPE IN VOLUME #8.

COULD IT BE THAT MY OTHER SYSTEMS ARE RUNNING XP AND THIS UNIT HAS ME?

I'M VERY FUSTURATED AS THIS IS THE PROGRAM THAT I AM USING FOR OUR OFFICE SYSTEM.

            THANKS,
            PAUL

Did you also update the linking index prior to re-testing?

RE: ALPHA4V8 - DUPLICATED RECORDS IN SETS

Since the duplication is in the set only, then it's a linkage problem.

I suggest that you link the parent to your first database only and then open the default form and see if the duplicates appear. If they don't, then add the next database and so on.

Do not use a browse to look at your records. There you would see duplicates, but they are virtual records duplicated and not real duplicates.

RE: ALPHA4V8 - DUPLICATED RECORDS IN SETS

This is definitly an indexing linking problem of some sort, however, the perplexing part is why this works on other machines with no errors. It appears strange to me that the application works on XP-based machines and not the machine running ME. Are you using the application from a network server? If so, then the data and application templates are the same on all machines. If this is a stand alone application specific to each machine then there is a chance of data corruption.

                    Try increasing the file handles.
