Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Perform mass customized e-mailings. Each person in your database
    receives a personalized e-mail message.
Create scripts that completely automate sending customized e-mail

letters, solicitations, demand letters etc. to your customer base via

    RE: Announcing Alpha Four V8

Will V8 improve Alpha 4s performance in Windows XP - such as the disappearing act of V7 while printing reports or the change in color?

        Selwyn;
The new printing options in V8 seem very exciting. I have reviewed (quickly) the documentation on V8 and did not find any mention of "typeset" printing. Will these new options in V8 allow you to e-mail or fax a typeset layout?

          Dear Selwyn,

Can previous versions of Alpha Four, such as V6, work with V7 or V8?

          Thanks,

                RE: Announcing Alpha Four V8

I'm not so concerned about the color changes, but many of my reports won't print since I've upgraded to XP. V7 was working great on Windows 95 and took care of the crashing problems I was having with V6.
V7 will print some of the reports without any problems, but many of them cause Alpha to just close down - even when I try to Print to Screen.
I posted a message on this board about it and someone suggested that there was a problem with the reports. I've tried deleting them and recreating them, but still having the problem. They are mainly invoices with calculations or plain packing slips with many calculations.
I will gladly upgrade to V8 if you think it may take care of this.

                Thanks for your help.

                  RE: Announcing Alpha Four V8

                  Joan,

I use A4V6 on a little 3 user Win98SE network. I can't remember the last time A4 crashed. It used to crash very often, but that's when I tried to enter information into memo fields without first putting the form into change mode. Now that I put the form into change mode, almost never a crash.

I'm NOT an expert, but I might be inclined to think your crashing problems might have something to do with your settings, indexes, or maybe even how some of your field rules are setup. I'm not suggesting deleting anything and starting over from scratch because I really don't know where to tell you to look first. My first question would be, what is it that you are doing when the program crashes? Is the problem repeatable in the same circumstance?

                  Mike
                  Thank you,
