Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Alpha Four V7 with XP - Colors

I have upgraded to Alpha Four version 7 on XP. My color pallette is not giving me correct colors. About 10% of the time it is correct but most of the time it gives the wrong color. Thanks for any help.

RE: Alpha Four V7 with XP - Colors

I just upgraded to V7 under XP and I'm having the same probelm. Colors are way off most of the time, but every so often they are exactly right. Have you found a solution? Or, can anyone else help with this?

    Thanks,

    Gene

      Gene:

I was told by Alpha that they do not know know how to solve the problem. I changed the video card to match what they were using on their PC. Still had the problem. Their solution was to go back to Windows 98. If I learn of any solutions I will let you know.

        Thank you Bob,

I'd appreciate hearing from you if you do find a solution. Geeze, didn't AlphaSoftware notice this major glitch in testing? If they did, it shouldn't have been released until fixed. If they didn't, then they certainly didn't do much testing.

I'd love to give the benefit of the doubt to AlphaSoftware... I've been using their products since A4V2... but I'm very disappointed in this release which promised to be fully compatible with XP (the reason I shelled out another $150 in the first place). How about an official reply from Selwyn & crew?

        Thanks,

        Gene

Has this issue been resolved yet? I hate to put our copy of V7 on XP if there are issues.

It has not been resolved. I was hoping someone from Alpha would chime in here and provide some answers.

I wouldn't hesitate to proceed with the install... V7 works very well otherwise. It's just those darned colors that aren't right -- very annoying. I'm not sure if everyone with XP is affected by this glitch or if it's just some of us.

Hopefully Alpha will say either way. Nice to have that issue resolved. I've seen posts about colors back when v7 was initially released.

              Thanks.

I agree with Gene. V7 works very well, however the color problem is very, very annoying. We are going to drop back to Windows 98 if it is not resolved soon.

We have several XP machines at Alpha and have never noticed this problem.

Therefore, the problem doesn't exist? ;-) Seriously... since the problem obviously does exist, will you be checking into it?

                    Thanks,

I have found that the colors go back to normal when I use V7 in full-screen mode (hit [alt]+[enter]). It also helps with lag between when I hit a key and the action shows up on the display.

We use full screen and the problem persists.

I agre with you on this. I shelled out the money to upgrade toA4v7 so that it would solve problems on my Win 2000 machines. It still has problems with printing and the colors issue makes it just like V6. Now they want us to pony up again for Version 8 when we realy did not get what we paid for in V7.
