Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Just use the download instructions from the original purchase and download it again. The lastest build is one on the download site. Install the new build right over the existing install. You will not lose any existing calendar designs or any saved settings. If you don't have the original instructions, contact Alpha customer support and they can get you the correct information.

          RE: Calendar and Toolbox FAQ

The latest FAQ for the Calendar and Toolbox addin, build 2.14, is now posted in the code archive. This version has some changes to optimize for A5V6. Release notes covering all of the changes since the original version are also listed.

Existing owners of the addin can get the new build by using the download instructions from the original purchase and downloading it again. The lastest build is one on the download site.

If you don't have the original instructions, contact Alpha customer support and they can get you the correct information.

You should uninstall the existing addin before installing the new version. No calendar designs or settings will be effected. There was a very slight change in registry settings in the install file. If you forget to uninstall, the only effect it will have is that 2 versions of the addin will be listed in the program list in the Windows control panel. It will have no operational effect.

            Jerry,

I presume we do this via windows add/remove.

            Thanks,

That is correct. Actually, if you don't uninstall first, it won't really make much difference other than it will be listed twice in the Add / Remove Programs list. Once as "Calendar and Toolbox for A5V5" and once as "Calendar and Toolbox for Alpha Five". If you uninstall the older version, listed as "for A5V5", after installing the new build it will uninstall the new version since the new build just overwrites the old files.

                  RE: Calendar and Toolbox FAQ

                  Hi Jerry,

Here's another wrinkle which I certainly share with many V6 users; I have retained a V5 installation on the same machine.

Let's say I uninstall the calendar and reinstall the new version. What do I need to do to make it available to both programs?

I would *guess* that I would install the calendar and then copy its files from the addins installed folder of V6 to the V5's addins installed folder. However, I don't like guessing.

                  Thanks,
                  Bill

Install it once using the A5V5 program folder and then a second time using the A5V6 program folder. Since the addin used paths relative to the program folder, this is the easiest method to put everything where it belongs.

The only quirk comes during uninstall. An uninstall will only remove the last install. But you can manually remove any files from the first install if needed. There should be a nearly complete list of the files installed in the help file. If not, I will post a list.

This message should have been posted in the A5V5 or A5V6 forums. The error indicates that the problem is in the Action Scripting part of the addon. This was introduced in build 2.12 and has not been changed since then. However, there was a bug introduced in build 2.15 that would cause a calendar to not open. This bug may have caused the action scripting to generate an incorrect error message. Build 2.16 has been posted on the Alpha site. See the postings on the A5V5 forum and the A5V6 forum for more information.
