Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Church Membersip Database!

    Hello Board Members!

I was wondering if anybody out there in Alpha Land has seen or developed an Application that applies to a Church Members, Peldging and Donations. Our Church is looking for a not so complication Application to keep track of the above and maybe a few more detail!

Look in the "Applications" section of the Alpha site.

I too have been using Alpha for our donation record keeping for several years. I do not have a " application" developed for it. Never saw the need to get real fancy , just use some bare bones data enry forms and reports. Happy to share any info I can. Email me at [email protected] or call 410 3636500

Thanks to everyone that responded to my request for information about a church application! I can create one myself, I just thought that if someone out in Alpha land already had it I won't have to recreate! Our church has only around 80 member and I can't see paying $400.00 to $650.00 for an aspplication that I can do with A5!

                    RE: Church Membersip Database!

I'm new to this forum and have a similar question....
I'm looking to see if someone has written an application to keep track of Church music with categories such as:
                    Choir Music
                    Praise Music
                    Congregational Hymns and Songs.
I'm currently checking out a package from www.churchmusicmaster.com put didn't know if someone else had written something in Alpha 4 or 5.

                    Thanks much,
                    Dan Dodge

                      Dan,

You have a question rather than an announcement and you will get a better response on the A5V5 forum. That said, it is easy to see why you posted to this thread.

As to your question you should look at learn alpha.com for an article by me called "query on child records" or something similar. The technique described there is appropriate to your needs. There is a sample you can download as a starting point.

Your problem has nothing fundamental to do with the Church. It is actually generic. You need to apply multiple classifications to a single entity. For example, a given piece could be an example of choir music and praise music so you need to be able to apply both categories to the piece. Later you will need the ability to run a search to find praise music written for choir to retrieve this and other similarly categorized pieces.

The example was written for Version 4.5 but should work in 5 without alteration.

                        Thanks
