Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • Version 5 Release Date

What is the deal with A5v5, the Aplha's website still says that it will ship in Q2.... that doesn't make much sence to me now that its Q3. Is there a revised date or at least a good guestimate?

    RE: Version 5 Release Date

I think your question is on the minds of many Alpha developers and users. This upgrade has been in the works for a long time.

Missing an anticipated release date is no big deal. I'm not going be critical. To paraphrase a famous saying:

"Let he who has never missed a deadline cast the first stone"

It would, however, be nice if someone from Alpha Software made a statement on this board regarding the situation.

Since I just received another post card exhorting me to upgrade to Version 4.5, my "guesstimate" is that Version 5 will not be out until the end of this quarter at the earliest.

Ditto on the delay. I also surmise they are having a stab at some real marketing based on Richards request for Niche info. Perhaps the app is ready, but the hype needs a hup? I am especially happy to wait while they line up their little duckies in that regard. Book writing also takes time.

{ received one of the little cards JOHN (see above) mentioned. Save your time, money and energy ALPHA. I'm already running 4.5 and there's no need to try to convince me further.
Thanks for the postcard but using your recources to send us a card announcind V5 will be of much more value to all.
Keep up the good work on V5.

          RE: Version 5 Release Date

          To reiterate

Since I have to the set up our company 2002 budget and utilize the balance of our 2001 budget, could an Alpha Software representative please provide an A5V5 release date or estimate. I have many seats of A5V4 and would prefer to go directly to A5V5 to avoid upgrade problems since I will be purchasing the product from a retailer in Ontario Canada.

How about this idea? Send an email direct to Alpha. Obviously they don't want the release date to be public but they may share something with you if explain your situation. You will, of course, have to adhere to the ultimate secreacy act of 2001.

            It's a thought.

            TYVM :) kenn
