I have worked in various aspects of law enforcement for 30+ years. One of the first things I was taught was the difference between the "letter of the law" and "the spirit of the law". Life is not all "black & white". Obviously, you have no concept of that diference. Finding all the nickles and dimes can be done with the spsirit of the law.
Despite what you say about the legality of this situation, I can assure you, even without knowing the prosecutors in the Boston area, your complaint wouldn't make it past the investigator. It wouldn't in my state as well as several others I know. I have worked closely with many prosecutors over the years and I have a pretty good handle on how they operate.
You burned your bridge big time by using this board to put pressure on the Alpha folks to "give" our a free update. Although that was not your intention at first, it's "how you played the game". How do I know you got a free (or nearly free)upgrade? You made reference it earlier.
Perhaps this will give you a clue as to how people should be treated. Although you don't realize it, you really do owe an appology to Selwyn, Carol and the users of this message board. It's a lot to swallow, but humble pie goes a long way.
