Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Michigan User Gathering

I would like to get in touch with all of the Alpha 5 Users in Michigan to create a local user group. We could get together, talk about Alpha 5 and compare notes.

Any suggestions on how I might pull this together?

Would it be possible to send a message to all members asking for people from Michigan to contact me?

Where in Michigan might ya'll meet? As a native Michigander, would I be welcome? I'm tentatively planning a trip "home" around July 4th.

If I can get some interest here, we'll setup a place to meet based on a central location - or upon where we can get some free meeting space! Everyone is welcome, whether or not you live in Michigan.

I live in Lake Orion, and can get some space in Grand Blanc to meet. If the group is small though, we could meet at a coffee shop for all that matters.

I'm willing to drive to have the meeting - no problem.

And it doesn't matter if you are Blue or Green. I went to O.U., so I'm not affiliated with either of those colors. I have relatives that are split between both also.

Let's keep the topic focused, please.....

If you are interesed, please post your information here or email it to me at [email protected].

(I would like name, email address and location.)

I'll start a list and post some suggestions for where/when we can meet if I get some bites.

I am very much interested in a A5 meeting in Michigan. I live in saginaw and would not mind heady to Grand Blanc or there abouts for a meeting.

Yes Yes Yes.. Me too Me too !!!

Except that I am over here on Lake Michigan - about 4 hours to Grand Blanc; not that I mind driving but it would have to be an overnighter or later afternoon because I also work 3rd shift. How about we see where we all are and choose a central location for the 1st meeting and then we can go from there?

I am on the board of the W. Mi. Progress Users Group and the way that we do it is to move it around; we meet 4x yearly and the location is hosted by a member company. Our meetings are generally in the afternoon, generally 3-4 hours and we do 3 presentations at each one.

I'm ready to go tomorrow !

I think you would have to declare which the interested people are centered around working with, desktop versus web applications. I personally only deal with desktop apps.

The day may well come Mike when you want to work with the web. In fact, once something pushes you hard enough to try it, you'll probably wonder why you didn't get started with web stuff earlier.

But, good point, and a meeting oughta have a little for both sides if possible.

yeah, maybe Steve. I've been pushed to get into snowboarding, too. I have all the equiptment, clothes and 35 years of developed skills with downhill skiing. I'm going to start over with snowboarding? Pain is a mighty motivator to not make a change, and at this juncture, the pain I read about in the web threads on this board is just that. But who knows...
