Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to adjust formula to add days to date

    I am trying to create a field in a report that includes a new date (21 days after the production date). But I do not want any values to be listed on the report , IF the production date (af_date_1) is blank. I have tried using the following formula - if(af_date_1 ="","",af_date_1+21. However, I am getting false dates in the report where the "af_date_1" is blank. Can someone tell me how to correct the formula so that I get a date 21 days after my "af_date_1", but get a blank field on my report if af_date_1 is empty?

    Thanks,

    Is af_date_1 a date field? If so, even if blank it will never equal a character value as in ="".

    You can test for

    af_date_1 = {}
    cdate(af_date_1) = ""
    isblank("af_date_1")

    and probably some others.

    Probably simplest to use

    if(af_date_1 ={},{},af_date_1+21)
    There can be only one.

          Stan,

          Thank you, the formula if(af_date_1 ={},{},af_date_1+21) worked nicely. Now I realize that I need a second qualifier (and) to only create the formula meeting the first condition AND if a column called "IVF" contains data. Can you provide that? I can't seem to get the correct qualifiers in place.

              A curious onlooker here. What language is this code in, and how did you know based on the original question? I am new to JavaScript and Xbasic.

                I assumed it was xbasic because the original expression attempt

                if(af_date_1 ="","",af_date_1+21)

                appeared to use xbasic syntax.

                  Let me try this again, as I am not getting the desired results. af_date_1 is a date & IVF is a character field. In my report I only wish to have the new calculated date(af_date_1+21) appear IF af_date_1 exists AND IVF exists. For other lines in the report, if af_date_1 or IVF does not exist i would like the new date filed to be blank.

                  Sorry, rookie Alpha user.

                    I didn't read your second question to say that, but in any case

                    if(af_date_1 > {} .and. IVF > "",{},af_date_1+21)

                    should return af_date_1+21 for records where af_date_1 > {}, not blank
                    and IVF > "", not blank.

                        Stan, I really appreciate your help. I tried your last formula. It returns the "opposite" of what i am looking for. This formula resulted in a af_date_1+21 for all rows that did not contain both af_date_1 or IVF and returned Blanks for the rows that contained af_date_1 AND IVF. how do i adjust the formula so the rows with af_date_1 AND IVF return the af_date_21 date and all other rows show a blank? Thanks, i know this is close and i probably am doing a bad job of explaining.
