Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Question about MySQL Cloud Environment

Hi everyone, hope this is the right forum. We're (my org.) considering moving our MטSQL databases to a cloud environment. We are considering several such MySQL cloud solutions, and there are quite a few on the market (the link, for example, compares one such solution with the Amazon solution). Perhaps I'm admitting my own ignorence, but would Alpha products support such a move? Would they be able to back up MySQL databases in a cloud environment?

Be happy to hear more information. Thanks!

Re: Question about MySQL Cloud Environment

Any reputable cloud provider offers these facilities you need to watch /read the small letters in each contract.
A good example to look at is Azure SQLServer and delivers what it costs include transaction costs, bandwidth etc requires lifetime ox calculations.
Cheap can be expensive sale requires good management appointments after you give your business out of your hands.
Test carefully and take time for a trial period.
Make a plan for disaster and recovery and see if it works the provider complies with your standard.
As A5 Was is local and external DB look at the response times and more .........
Further considerations hold good account of your choice with the provider and technical inconveniences that will arise nothing is perfect.
At large parties like amazon you can rent a piece of IT infrastructure and basta.
THE moment that it is really going wrong >>> ringing the cash register and personal help is no more than within the SLA.

An average cough with a Big Brother cloud provider will cost you $ 150.00 per hour outside the SLA.
My advice? based on experience with customers in the U.S. and Amsterdam consider Zebra hosting environment.
Why they are not satisfied until you as a customer are too.

If you have further questions please let me know.

    regards

    Eric

Or - a shorter answer would be that Yes, you can move your MySQL database to a windows based hosting service and use Alpha Five as it's "front end", the part that makes that data available to you on your web site - basically you can have your own private cloud. That's pretty much what the web application portion of Alpha Five is designed for.

Having gone the rent-a-cloud route prior to switching to Alpha Five, I don't recommend relying wholy on somebody else's cloud. Even when it's a third party hosting service, if it's your hosting account, you ftp your databases up there, and you can ftp them back down any time you want, so you have a full backup of your data right there in your office. You can even set up ftp software to do that for you on an automated schedule. Because the "front end" programming in Alpha Five is done on your development machine (your desktop) and then "published", you always have that also. So, if your cloud goes down, you can publish both the databases and the front end to a new cloud very quickly, and you can run it right in your office if you just need to get at your information while the cloud gets fixed.

I have only one word for you to make you think long and hard about any cloud that's not your own - Blackberry.

Also - the better hosting services have automated backup of the whole web site. I use Arvixe and screwed up my application royally at one point - one phone call and they were able to restore the entire thing to it's prior state.
