Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • How would you intergrate wordpress with Alpha5 ?

    Dear A5es,

Anyone who has used wordpress knows that it is one of the best CMS out there with its easy-to-use useful plug-ins and a great wide community! and as A5ers we also recognize the power that A5 can bring when it comes to building powerful web applications. Now wouldn't it be even more powerful to combine the two to have a even more poweful website?
Since A5 needs its own server to run, how can we intergrate wordpress with Alpha5 ? or when will A5 be server independent to intergrate it with wordpress instead of the other way around?

Has anyone done this before? if so how? any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Maroine

Wordpress is all PHP, Alpha does not use PHP. What exactly to do you mean by integrate? Do you mean you want to be able to stick an Alpha TabbedUI in a Wordpress page? Or other way around, take advantage of Wordpress CMS in an Alpha application?

I was thinking more of a wordpress plugin that integrates a Alpha Five web app into a Wordpress page.

Sure - go for it and let us know when you have it done.

Or use an iframe to hold the Alpha page on the wordpress page??

I use WP and have many plug ins running I may do exactly what friend Al said an Iframe in a WP page to show an Alpha App. I also am looking at some grid lite display plugins too.

Thank you Larsman Steve Al and Nicholas for your replies.

I think the iFrame will do just what i am trying to do; having a grid in a WP page; the goal is to have a content niche SEOed wp website along with some popular plug ins as well as some advanced A5 functionalities using grids inside a WP page.

How would you go about doing that? are there any tutorials about this?

                I'd appreciate your inputs.

Re: How would you intergrate wordpress with Alpha5 ?

I agree with the guys below, Alpha would have to reside in an IFrame. Alpha grids run on A5W pages under their Application Server. WP is not going to run on the Alpha Web Server. So you build two systems - an Alpha web application and a WP website. You would have to place all of your Alpha grids on A5W pages, including any TabbedUI, etc. That is, you cannot include a "grid" in the WP via an IFrame, it has to be on an A5W page, and then you include the whole page. Now, the Alpha Five web app CAN interact with the WP database, and you absolutely could maintain your data for the combined "hybrid application" in one database, or allow them to be split across two database. Even if they are split, you can program Alpha so it interacts with the WP database. (Even though it is a 3rd party application, I can maintain the MySQL database of my forum from a grid on my Alpha Five website.)

For those that are confused about above and below.....

Steve and I (and a couple of other people.) view the latest postings first. The default is to view the postings in chronological order... ie as they were posted...

These are individual settings for your login user..

So above and below are relative to how the user is viewing the thread. Previously posted would work for either viewing method...

Re: How would you intergrate wordpress with Alpha5 ?

Here's a thought and possible theory that I think could work. You first establish the WP page. Then when you need input, like for ordering products, you link over to the pages on Alpha Server, which then collects the data and the orders?

                          Has anyone tried this?

Your main domain could be used, but then a subdomain name to take them to the Alpha A5w pages. So lets say the domain is http://domain.com and then the subdomain would be http://sales.domain.com You could assign a IP address to the sales.domain.com so that the pages could be valid. The original IP for domain.com would of course be different.

                          Does this make sense?

Here is a thought that I think could work.

1 - Establish the main domain in either Wordpress or Dreamweaver HTML

                            Such as http://domain.com

2 Then for sales pages, link them to a subdomain that goes to the A5w pages on the Alpha Web Server which is another IP address

                            Such as http://sales.domain.com

                            In theory, should this work?

The reason I would figure this may work is because some folks just wanted basic information and the pages can be setup quickly. Then when they decide to order, they could setup a secure login and go to the sales pages at the subdomain on the Alpha Five server so data could be collected.

                            Does this make sense?
