Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SWF Videos not loading

Anyone else having a problem getting the swf videos to load from the support site?

I used to see this happen but it's been good for a long time until yesterday afternoon. Just wondering if it's just me?

Can you post a link to the video you are having issues with? Would save time in trying to figure out what you are trying to view.

I just tried 3 random videos and they all worked fine. It seemed a little slow in loading, but once loaded they played fine...

The video player plugin for your browser may have become corrupted or disabled.

Using a plug-in for RealPlayer ... RealDownloader ... many of those videos can actually be downloaded to your PC. Same for the ones on YouTube.

I always just download videos, first, if possible. I can then view them without any of the annoying pauses and delays caused by Internet traffic.

(There are other video downloaders available, but just be sure that they are reputable and NOT attached to malware/viruses).

I then use another piece of free software (called Format Factory) to convert to any other video/audio format, as needed.

Looks like you are correct Bill,

Linked up again and they took about 10 minutes to load, but they did eventually load.

            Thanks

                Re: SWF Videos not loading

While considering an upgrade to Alpha Version 11 the recommended links to video clips for information failed. On this board there are people discussing such a failure with a suggested work a round as if it is the expected norm of acceptance for the product quality of Alpha Software.

Using Alpha Software to develop a platform to promote and sell a product on the web would you not expect the video links you provide to prospective customers to work without having “Doing X and knowing about Y”?

If you start with a conclusion you will quickly conclude you have finished looking and make dumb statements.

If you have an open mind you will never stop looking, never look back, and knowing better, will rarely have anything to say.

                All the Best,

                  Rich,

The problem with the video downloads is a recent and temporary issue and I am sure they will fix shortly. Not sure if anyone has alerted Alpha to the problem, so I just did.

                    Re: SWF Videos not loading

We host the videos on an account at GoDaddy. We don't have any control over the download speed. We will have to investigate what's happened to their service.

                        Re: SWF Videos not loading

The example video quoted in Gandhi's post above was perfectly viewable on my system (using Google Chrome), last night.

                        Attn: Rich

In my 40+ years of programming using a variety of languages, workarounds are a common occurrence. Unlike many software vendors, Alpha Software is very responsive to alerts about problems, however guys who have been programming for any length of time know the score and often just work around a nagging issue, to keep a project moving.

Computers and computer software are not perfect instruments and never will be, but there really is more than one way to skin a cat.

In fairness, the problem encountered on this thread is NOT a reflection on AS or the robustness of A5. When you are using browsers with plug-ins to view video content, many pieces are involved, along with a user's individual system configuration. Add service providers to the mix and things can ... and DO ... go wrong!

i am with you. any server can go down anytime, unless the webhost has unlimited servers and re-route the calls to many different places, once awhile this will happen. it is not the reflection on the content holder.
