Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Development Help Wanted for v11 Application

    Hello Everybody,

I've started on the long road of discovery with Alpha 5. Finding it tough going trying to assimilate everything from scratch. Biggest problem is finding information specific to the need of the moment, so much available to look through!! I'm finding it takes too much time with too little progress ... so I'm looking for some paid help.

I'm working on a web app for rental and sale of equipment. I need someone with enough knowledge and time to handle my frantic calls for help on fairly simple 'starter' type issues. (Simple anyway to all the alphaholics out there!). Things like "what's the best way to handle this - Grid/Dialog/Layout?", "What code goes in here, where do I find it?", etc

I don't think I need a genius for this, just someone who knows a lot more than me and who has had similar problems in their learning curve.

Anyone interested in some mentoring please email me direct: [email protected] Please include charge rate and availability timewise. I promise to answer all emails I receive.

    Regards,
    Ron S

Where oh where have the developers / mentors (seasoned and potential) gone??
Not a single response to date - and I've been reading all the complaints about how difficult it is to make money with Alpha!! Apparently everybody is already making enough?

        G'day Steve,

        Appreciate your interest.
If you mean am I aware of alphadevnet, the answer is yes.
If you mean have I gone there to post a request or look for a developer, then no.
Being sales oriented myself I sort of assumed anyone interested would make it their business to be aware (keywords etc) of an interested customer, and initiate contact. Apparently I'm wrong.
But, there's still hope .. and I do have options.
Just I'm bemused at the lack of response.

          Ron,

Sorry about your luck. I would try to help you, but I don't currently work with alpha webside. I saw you post within minutes and thought some of the prople saying they needed work would jump all over it.

            Hi Dave,

Yep, me too .. last count 127 views, not one offer.
Maybe I need to change my deodorant
Or change the specification - there's no one out there knows more than me?
Oh well, I'm away now for a long Easter weekend so I'll just see what happens .......

I suspect there are number of us who would have jumped on this, but for the fact you are in Australia. We know there are Alpha developers in Australia that are in a better position to support the project than many of us located elsewhere.
              Regards,

                John,

I appreciate your taking the time to post a comment, but really? Are you serious? In this day and age of instant communications, are you suggesting location is the reason no one is interested .. I find that very hard to believe. I deal with people internationally all the time in my other existence outside of Alpha and include the US in that - being in different parts of the world is no real handicap. Email will handle 90% of most queries and they don't bother with time differences. GTM can resolve most others.

Frankly, I've lost any enthusiasm to pursue the matter further.. now 205 views and no result. Guess everybody is making too much money doin' other things!! Even in Australia. So, I'll go back to Plan A.
