I'm just down-right confused at this point. I just jumped onto A5 at V11 and now all the talk about changing the pricing model with V12(anywhere) makes we wonder if I shouldn't be considering another RAD product. I've been working with 'proprietary' programming environments for the last 20 years (industry and product specific) and I thought that A5 would be a great chance for me to move into business programming environment for my business, and perhaps to branch out to offering services for other businesses. I dabble in C# and Java, Jscript and the like, but am not a hard core coder (but I do have a few who work for me).
I am looking to move my business's current SaaS system over to a self hosted, web-based system where I can code in the features our SaaS system does not. Additionally as I add users I am paying $300/year for each employee (15 employees and growing) that I add to the system, and of course every employee has to be a user in order for our workflow and system to function... costs are mounting. Storage is also becoming an issue as they charge a fortune for data storage once we exceed our allotment.
The V11 pricing model is affordable. I dont understand the V12 model yet, but the costs seem less than my currently SaaS. I am a bit concerned about investing time learning a non-proprietary language/environment, and future direction of Alpha. It seems like a great product to get things working quickly, and albeit small company has a solid community.
What advantage does A5 have over these suggested alternatives - based on standards, and ongoing costs, and support costs? Broad question I know. sorry if its too broad, but I am anxious to dig in to A5, but have these nagging concerns and want to select the right platform to move forward.
Thanks in advance,
Rb
