Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Roadmap for Alpha

I think this is a perfect example of how an organisation who vendor a professional development tool should communicate with it's users...

    Hi Andrew,

Very interesting. What it does not show is how long all these items have been in the in tray. Are these bugs or enhancements?

Even so, it is always good to have a reason to communicate with customers.

Keith, that road map is brand new. They used to have a static one up for a long time. W_ is working hard at being innovative and responsive to its growing user base.

I have never used Wakanda but similarly In.de has the Roadmap right in the IDE. You can open it up and see what's being worked, bugs that have been fixed, new features on the table. Developers can, add requests and vote on what they see to be a priority. I like this kind of information and see it as nice addition to any development software including Alpha. Its typicially when you are working an an app you have a suggestion or see a problem;being able to deal with it without leaving the IDE is pretty nice.

in.de does not use a sever like the was, but wakanda does(but no charge). Wakanda does take a bit of programming - maybe a bit more than in.de. Both are a little more than alpha. Both are vibrant and hard working when it comes to developement and customer support so far as I can see.

Here is the deal. I have a very large web application in the works now that will get a super large number of hits in a short amount of time. Someone else is doing some of it at present so I have some time. He is way better at c#. Tables are built.

Alpha was not a comfortable fit - talked amonst other developers
wakanda was not a comfortable fit - talked to same
I believe in.de could be - it has all that may be needed

Alpha can do many, many things without any coding. Almost all others do require code for some of the things alpha does for you.
Like::: Make a button in alpha to close alpha or go to another form and it is done. I most others, make the button and then put some code behind it to achieve desired effect.

Wakanda is very impressive in its ability to handle LARGE amounts of data. Sorting columns in a million record database is almost instantaneous.

Wakanda uses it's own sql. I think oosql?? or with some work you can connect mysql. It is fast.
In.de prefers(it seems) sqlite and it should be just as fast. Maybe faster as there will be no server.

Seriously Dave, another forum has already pointed out that the age aspect of Alpha developers might be contributing to the lack of input to this and other recent forum topics, What do you think, Automotive man?

Yeah, "NoSql". NoSql is designed to be scalable for huge dbs with millions/billions of records.

I don't think the age of the developers at alpha should be a concern. I suspect some are young and have newer ideas as most companies.

I more think they come here, observe and leave with information.

If I were with wakanda, I would use their nosql. If I were using in.de, it would be sqlite or mdb(for small stuff maybe). were I with alpha, I would use mssql. The flavor has to match the fruit. Oh, I am with alpha desktop. LOL
