Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What licensing option is right for me?

I'm looking at putting in an eCommerce site that needs to grant about 5-7 office employees access to the database. In addition, we have field operators that need to access the system which will be another 10 or so light users that will basically just do a little data entry. Then we need customers to access the system to check their account or place orders. I could only guess at how many of them will be logged in at any given moment.

I don't know if I have to add all those numbers up or if each is a separate application.

From what I could see of v11, you had an unlimited application server for 700 dollars. But with v12 its now 1900 for unlimited? That price increase might be out of our budget. This is small business.

So I'm wondering if v12's licensing is just confusing and there is a way to get the exact same flexibility without paying nearly three times the price. Or if my best bet is to treat Alpha Software like Microsoft, skip the new version, and stay with the older version until v13 comes out with a better agreement?

I'm just looking at the numbers and options and trying to work out what is in the best interest of my client and this project.

    I just need information here.

You could always start with V11, but V12 has some really cool stuff, especially for mobile/web. You can still do Mobile and web with V11. Check out the new features of V12 and see if you need anything it has to offer.

What exactly are you confused about concerning the licensing?

    Are you an existing user?

      Hi Will,
As I have suggested in your other thread, you are asking the question in the wrong place. these are questions for Alpha Software, not the users forum.
V12 is very new and we are just as confused as you are.
Richard as given you his email address. he is the CEO so you have access to the top guy. what else do you need?

To my way of thinking....that is part of the problem here. It seems there is a GREAT amount of confusion. Why would Alpha not want to clear up the confusion in a public forum versus having to answer 100 individual emails?

        Just my 2 cents. :)
