Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How can it be as far as you can tell? How do you look at your data?

Well I would go directly to the table via Workbench or even Alpha Five to confirm. Tables that are truncated, the autoinc would be reset to 1. Tables that have records deleted (not truncated) would retain the previous autoinc value.

I just want to upload the data from my tables in alpha.
As far as I can tell in workbench there is nothing.

why not log on to MySQL itself through a command window.
                then use the database
select * from a table and see the result.
                workbench is only a GUI.

Re: Upgrade and lose all data

I could not find any reference to anyone losing data by upgrading Workbench. What version did you go from-to? And did you upgrade MySQL at the same time? Also, what utility are you using in your screenshot, I don't think that is Workbench.

When you say "I have some fairly recent table info in alpha 5 what is the safest way to move this information to mysql" I have to assume you mean your other data sources is in DBF format. Typically that is referred to as "in Alpha". The best way to convert DBF data to SQL is to create an empty SQL database, make a connection to it from your Alpha application, and then run though the File > Export routine, exporting to the SQL database.

I don't mean to be rude but are you certain you moved the data?

You seem to have the Schema with no data.

Try going to the backup and restore the data.

                      http://mysqlworkbench.org/2013/07/my...nchronization/

I renamed the target database I was syncronizing to - I wanted to make a duplicate copy of my db to test with and not damage the one I am using. I am not sure if hte warning applies to renaming the target or the source. I did not rename the source.

                      Renaming schemas

WARNING: A related case is that of when instead of synchronizing a schema with another of a different name, you actually want to rename it. But because altering the name of an existing schema is not supported by MySQL, a rename would mean dropping the original schema and creating a new one in its place. Because data is not copied by the model synchronization, your data would be lost. Therefore, keep that in mind when renaming schemas in your model and synchronizing it.

I have never renamed a database. I always make a duplicate using Data Dump, then create a new database and restore to that database. Or Navicat has a nice right-click Duplicate feature.

SO far from what I can tell it was a complete data wipe other than the autoinc as you said the tables were not truncated and I am really in a little bit of shock, I wish there would have been a warning - it should never be that easy to wipe out all of your data in such a developed product.
I hope all of you heed that and do not do what I did if your using Mysql workbench.
could you image making a duplicate ANYTHING to find that the original has been emptied of its contents? wth

But the Renaming schemas warning pretty much says you are going to lose your data. Again, I would never rename a database; I am sure my forgotten reason for that rule is that the option has never been available in any tool I have used. I always go through a longer more manual duplication process to "rename".

Re: Upgrade Mysql Workbench and lose all data (not Alpha)

I see that in that warning alone, however during the synchronization process there was not a warning and I was not renaming the source schema just the target.
                              heres what happened:

I had one db (schema) named "alphanwcopro" and created another called "nwcopro". I thought I could just sync the two but during the process I was warned that nwcopro already existed AND that they were using the same connection and that I could rename it to continue - so I renamed it alphanwcopro2 (meaning I renamed "nwcopro")

                              what occurred is that
nwcopro was renamed to alphanwcopro2 and
alphanwcopro2 was created with the exact same structure as alphanwcopro --- however alphanwcopro itself was and is now empty of all of the data.

There was no warning that - THAT would occur and who would figure that? Am I really that ignorant of how synchronization works? Is that normal to dump all data then copy just the structure without the data when performing a task called syncronize? lol
