Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New Banner

The new banner I am sure is lovely, but also annoying. Could we have an X button on it please?

My tablet skips about Robin with the banner.
I believe the actual banner has been removed, but the frame is still there.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

Banners like that are usually a plugin or a method to programmatically create it. They are both harder to remove than to install/build sometimes.

Well I am thankful it does not do that on my iPad, but on my PC it is really annoying.

            Re: New Banner

There was/is a banner that pops up above the forum for advertising alpha products. Not a bad idea if properly done. This one was a bit big and somewhat unattractive to me.

I am working on a new site for my own that is way way overdue! I just made a simpler header which is like a banner. Site is in Joomla and just started today, so lots of work yet. I even found a template for free that I liked so much, I actually paid money for the pro version.

By the way, alpha products would be able to run behind a joomla website with very little work. Clients like it because they can log in and change graphics, test and such.

Take a look at www.aldaweb.com/joomla30 You can watch it take shape or not LOL.

Very nice site Dave - could you perhaps use a proof reader?

That's a beautiful website, Dave! But you should add an about page or similar.
                But very, very nice!

                  Re: New Banner

Robin, there is always a chance to get some work off the application allstars site. signup is free. as work comes in, it is 100% shared to the members. Over time, that will be a lot. We get 400+(not bots) people a day on the 2 sites and about even between them. 163 applications have been downloaded from the store at this point and we only have 4-5 in there. 125+/- are alpha applications.

Thanks both of you. It is joomla and a JS theme. As cheap as I am, I found one I was willing to pay for.

I will have an about page soon. I started with a template and eliminated some and will remove a bit more before it is done. Mainly change the text on the modules and text spots, then change the menu names. easier that way. should go live in a week or so.

                    Hi Dave,

Very nice web site design and keep up the good work. I would add a blog into it. It will be a very good SEO move.

                    Regards,

It ranks page 1 now. Just don't want to mess that up.
